This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about
everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great,
inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old
Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already.
Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check
the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style
natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it
would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content.
Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW
internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art –
links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a
title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read
everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a
problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at
night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads
live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new
daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning all! Guess who fell asleep in front of the coputer last night about 11 and woke at 2 and now is still wide awake? Nuffin much to report here. I did a bit of garden yesterday, emptied the old compost out of the tomato pots, and levelled off the main raised bed a bit, finally put the sad bulbs in, planted out my chives and chopped up some tree to put in the green bin, which reminds me, I have to renew my subscription to the council for that.
I'm already having people telling me lockdown is over on june whatever. No, it isn't, it's not earlier than ::sigh:: let's hope it sticks this time. New wool hs turned up so I can finish me crochet. February has just gone in a flash considering January lasted for months. I've signed up for a few more free talks online, the next one will be Judy Dench tomorrow. Looking forward to that. I'll have a proper browse at some of them later on along with a project management course. Time to learn some new stuff.
Ruby, conitnued thoughts for you and your family. Your ride actually sounded like fun to me too, what is happening to me? dumpling, hope you've impressed on your family your needs. Happy birthday snoozers daughter. There are quite a few birthdays this month aren't there so if it's your today, I'll be back later ...tru, it's amazing what a small job can do to make things look better. I cleaned up the slate hearth a few days ago and it really does make the room look better. AOD, well done for getting dressed the day before yesterday
Loving and leaving you all to possibly make some breakfast and then hopefully carb coma...Hope you're all patting yourselves on the back for still making through fairly sane. You deserve medals.

Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Still dark but dry and mild, blustery wind forecast for later.
DH getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS1 enjoying a lie-in as on a week's leave to use it up before the end of the holiday year. DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner last night was gammon, egg, chips, beans and coleslaw for the menfolk. I had gammon, egg, salad and coleslaw - nice it was too, some gammon left too.
Yesterday work was steady, will see what today brings.
Keep safe and well x

Morning All
After a lovely couple of bright, sunny days it's back to pouring rain and a strong wind. Never mind, it was good while it lasted!
Work was great yesterday, lovely to see some children in school and all but one in - bet the parents were glad to see them go back too. Hoping today is as busy, if it's not busy I just eat biscuits!
Hugs to the poorlies and strugglers, thinking of you Ruby and Marie especially. Take care. XX16 -
Morning folks and thanks TAFF for the early start! Dry and mild here too with light cloud forecast.. Yesterday was blue sky and sun all day long. I was almost (but not quite) tempted to go out back and tidy up a bit. Maybe today. I am expecting a few casualties in the pots out there after that bitter cold spell that went on and on.
Sparkle has responded to your good wishes! She was back on form this morning, leaping all over me around 5 am. telling me she wanted her breakfast. But I'm a cruel mum and I made her wait until a more civilised time!
We should have been taking over our new to us static on the 1st March but thanks to lockdown the little site remains closed. But if all goes to Boris's road map it can open on the 12th April. The DGDs are getting excited already! The tourer served us well over the years but there was less and less room in there as the girls grew.
Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for all the poorlies, convalescents and just p***d off. Happy birthday to Laura Snoozer and anyone else keeping quiet about getting a year older. Take care one and all and stay safe x

Good morning, thanks for starting Taff - hope you catch up on your sleep. Sounds as if you've been busy in the garden.I bought a vegetable growing bag and some seed potatoes, I'm going to have a go at that - I've grown spuds in a bag before and I was pleased at the amount I got, they were nice as well.We met up with DD and family in the park yesterday armed with food for the birds. It was busy, because it was sunny and not too cold, but muddy! We had a nice time anyway, even if we all had shoes absolutely plastered in mud, and their dog was filthy. The car passed its MOT thank heavens, with an advisory comment about the brakes, so it's going in on Friday to have that sorted. It only did 4000 miles last year. Our hairdresser was texting us late yesterday afternoon, so we've got appts for 15th April, by then I don't know what we'll look like.DS texted yesterday to say afternoon tea will be delivered today as part of my birthday present - they couldn't get it delivered tomorrow, which is the actual day, but it doesn't matter, I've got a hospital appt tomorrow anyway. We are eagerly awaiting the tea today.I'm going out for bread today, don't think anything else is needed.Thinking of Ruby and family, AOD, Dumpling and Marie, and also anyone struggling with life generally.Take care folks16

Good morning everyone
It's a bit chilly here this morning but we had a beautiful day yesterday so I am hoping for more of that today. I had some absolutely devastating news on Sunday, my beautiful sister rang me to tell me that she has been diagnosed with cancer of the oesephagus and stomach. She has a ct scan tomorrow to see if it has spread anywhere and if it has there is no treatment she can have. If it hasn't spread then she will have her stomach and oesophagus removed. She is being unbelievably brave about it all so we are taking our cues from her but I can't stop crying. She is only 46 and her youngest daughter is 15. She has 2 older children and 4 grandchildren and an amazing husband who is shell shocked. I need to be brave as well for her and she will tell me off if I start crying in front of her but it is just so sad.
Jemima and the grandchildren are coming to see me this afternoon so that will be lovely to see them. I plan to spend the morning batch cooking as a distraction and a help towards my diet. Steve is ready to be my fetcher and carrier so all I have to do is sit on my perching stool and cook.
Hope you all have a good day whatever you have planned, take care xx15 -
Morning folks.Torrential rain and high winds are forecast for today though at least the temperature is much milder than last week.Yesterday DM and I sat together to look through one of her photo albums. This one started when she graduated (1965), went through her working years at the university and ended with her retirement do in 1993. It was rather bittersweet, she mourned her middle-ages, career and colleagues whilst really enjoying seeing again a whole swathe of her students. There's one particular student who is still in regular touch with her, he looked so extremely handsome then, happily he's kept his looks. DM was a great entertainer and baker, there are so many photos of students when she held 'kaffeeklatsch' afternoons, coffee, cake and conversation. Happy days indeed.
Dumpling - that's awful news, I hope that there's a chink of light for your sister that she can be treated.TA - great to know that Sparkle is back to sparkling.Snoozer 🎂🎉 to Laura. There must be more birthdays this week.My new shoes are arriving today sometime, great excitement already. 😀
Now I wish everyone a happy Tuesday.15 -

Morning, Hugs if you need one. Dumpling, what awful news, you must all be devastated.......
Its a bright morning, no overnight rain, so DB will be champing at the bit to go out into the garden. At last he has acknowledged that he is 87 this year, not 17 and can no longer do what he used to, he goes out for half an hour, and thats it. He works out a list of the things he wants to do, if he does not get them done, he carries them forward.
Cleaner was here yesterday, so the bungalow is nice and clean, she does a very good job, as does the young mum who does the ironing. She does the bed linen for us.
I managed to get 3 rows of the quilt together, will try and do the others today, its not perfect but Niblet will love it. I am dreading having to quilt it.
I need to take the chicken off the bone, we will have it with a side salad tonight and a jacket potato. We had the sausage last night.8 -
Morning allMy DH birthday too today, so HB to everyone with one imminent. He's opened his cards,(fewer each year) presents.. ditto
I don't think we'll be doing much really, perhaps a trip to the shops or he's suggested a walk, though I'm still not up to going too far,we'll see in a bit.

Not to long to wait for the caravanChicken and leek pie for tea, and I have some tiramisu for the birthday boyHave the best day you can, hugs if you need one x:heartsmil 'A woman is like a teabag: You never know her strength until you drop her in hot water'. Morning all
Bright and sunny here but with a fierce wind, it will be fun walking the dogs later we will get blown along !! same old same old today, bit of tidying this morning then get the dogs out and maybe a film later.
I had a really bad night last night and saw almost every hour in, think I went off at 5 this morning till 9 so may have to have a nana nap later.
Dinner tonight will be an easy bacon egg and chips as I just dont have the energy to do anything complicated. I have written a list of jobs I want doing before I return to work and while I have the time so I will try and start one of them today.
Rosy Happy Birthday to your DH and to Snoozers laura xx
Dumpling I am so sorry to hear about your sister, you are doing the right thing being led by her, she will be being hit by all sorts of emotions and feelings, its really like being hit by a ton of bricks and it will take her a good while to come to terms with it, im hoping for a good outcome for her xxx
Have good days all and take care xx9
