Sportage v Alteca v other?

We bought a brand new Sportage just under 2 years ago now. My only criticism is that it does nothing wrong at all (ex Alfa and Lancia owner.....). It has no personality. But it starts first time every time, drives exactly as it should. We took the 5 year service plan too as we wanted to ensure that it got the full 7 year warranty. If buying second hand make sure you press the issue regarding the 7 year warranty.'Just because its on the internet don't believe it 100%'. Abraham Lincoln.

Goudy said:We looked at the Ateca, Sportage and the Mazda CX-30 (now called the CX-3) a while back for her in doors as she wanted an elevated driving position.
We both liked the Mazda, I had one on long term loan for a while and it really is a nice drive and the petrol engine is peach, but they are pricey.
We didn't like the small turbo's petrol engines in Ateca and the Sportage felt heavy and cumbersome and it's mpg from the petrol engine didn't help, they are quite thirsty.
We ended up with a Suzuki Vitara.
Some of the plastic trim in a bit "work's van" but it's well screwed together and drives great. Think functional and hard wearing rather than plush. If you have kids, they'll struggle to ruin the interior un matter how hard they try.
MPG is better than most smaller hatchbacks, it''s petrol but it'll sit at 50 mpg all day at motorway speeds and it hasn't given a moments trouble, even after some pretty hard use.
The only things holding us back from another is that Suzuki have hiked the prices up recently, that and the fact it's got years of relatively trouble free service left in it.0 -

As above, mine is equally reliable and I don’t think there’s much in it other than looks (I preferred the look of the Tucson). Also the Hyundai only has a 5 year warranty instead of 7 offered by Kia.0 -

I looked at all of the above and ended up with a new Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross 2 wheel drive. One of the reasons is I am 6'6" and access was good. Very please with it0

If buying from a main dealer it should as long as the car has been serviced to the Kia expectations.
When we were looking we nearly bought an 18 month old one with 15K on the clock sold as 'with Manufacturers warranty' but on checking with Kia it was not as it did not have a service and was six months over the age for it.

I really wouldn't recommend getting one because of that.0 -
Prior to the Evoque we now have, we had a Sportage 1.7Crdi in '3' spec.
It was very slow and very thirsty, the 114bhp engine just cannot cope with the weight and it's basically full throttle all the time.
Low 30mpg was the norm, it would only get close to 40mpg on longer trips, and it was common for the cruise control to switch off with a loud warning and a jerk up hills, as the car just couldn't maintain the speed you'd chosen and needed a downchange.
We actually get better MPG from our far more powerful 2.0 diesel Evoque.
Reliability of the Sportage was ok, but it had started displaying the notchy steering that is common to them.
It's where the steering feels very stiff and notchy in the straight ahead position and makes M-way driving very unpleasant.
It means a new steering rack under warranty, but the dealer can be quite reluctant as it's a major job for them at reduced labour rates to Kia.0
