Is a 5m wide carpet possible to carry up stairs without help?

Remember if getting carpet from a store you can use your own fitter 

despite the offers the store will try give you, you pay for it in extras like grippers, door bars and underlay, which your fitter will supply identical products at 1/3 of the price or less. They will also collect it from the warehouse for you rather than paying delivery from the firm

if the store does installations, chances are these are subcontracted out anyway so any issues you need you chase their installer, and they’re only the stores installer because they offered a low rate. Go with someone you can see reviews for and you’ll have a smoother experience. 

I said all this to my girlfriend when we did ours but she was adamant it would make things smoother if all arranged by the shop.

appt at mid day, arrived 9pm, finished 10:30pm, and our skirting boards we’re hanging off in 3 places and covered in marks. Took ages for shop to resolve! Never again.

I had to carry a 2m x 2m carpet down the stairs from the top floor in my townhouse this weekend.  I rolled it loosely and folded it in half, but it was not easy and pretty blimmin' heavy.  If I had to get twice that weight and length back up there, I think it would be very hard work and I genuinely would be dragging it up one step at a time.

thanks for all the tips which helped me find the best strategy. In the end managed to find a fitter that can deal with the logistics which is great. They'll receive it now which saves me a substantial headache and gives me flexibility in ordering.
