I have got a quote from howdens through my builder it is the cheapest so far out of Wren, Magnet and few local kitchen shops. But it still seems a tad bit high. So armed with the quote I went over to Diy kitchens and tried to add everything like to like.. I’m pretty sure I am maybe 80% correct in adding like to like and this comes to £4800. I allowed for another 20% extra in case of any errors and still this is just under 6k.
Will it be wise to ask Howdens to price match? The price in howdens is about £7k for the units.

I was in exactly the same boat a few months ago. With pretty similar figures for Howdens and DIY Kitchen (although I think my like for like quote with DIY Kitchen was a little less than yours). Howdens would not price match but with some pleading to the Howden store manager, he knocked off a bit more. The builder who is doing the renovation for my whole house has already quoted for doing the Howden kitchen fitting. They were very reluctant to even do DIY Kitchen.

If I really wanted the DIY Kitchen, then they would have taken off their labour for kitchen fitting from their quote and allowed me to get my own kitchen fitters in for the DIY Kitchen. However, I'm sure they wouldn't have taken off a fair price for the kitchen fitting and it would have given them an angle to blame someone else for their own mistakes. For this reason, I decided to bite the bullet and go with Howdens.

However, if I was just getting a kitchen refit with no other work then I would probably go with DIY Kitchens and look for a person who was willing to fit it from the outset.

@tallac - are you happy with your Howden's kitchen?
No man is worth crawling on this earth.

So much to read, so little time.

haha funny story really...I purchased the Howden's kitchen back in October 2020 due to false pressure from a stupid annual October promotion the local Howden store run and I even got pressure from the builder too. The reality is that they have promotions throughout the year and just change the name of what the promotion is, so there was no need to purchase it so early.

We're now in April and the kitchen units have still not been fitted. The builder's team have had to move the units around the house as they work which probably caused a lot of hassle.

Anyway, I think they learnt a massive lesson from that and I don't think they'll falsely try to encourage their clients to purchase ahead of time.

All being well, the kitchen should now be fitted within the month. I can update you once that's happened.
