Can you take a baby to vaccine centre

My friend has been given her vaccine on Monday. Can she take her 6 months old child with her?

I don't know about Leicestershire, but in my area it says this....

    Can I bring family members?

Please do not bring children or other family members to your appointment. We are unable to allow children into the centres for safety reasons

Whether it would be different anywhere else such as her family GP surgery, I don't know.

Same old same old since 2008

The only people who can answer that definitively is the place she's being vaccinated at

It really isn't advised. Aside from your sister having her vaccine and looking after  her baby at the same time. There is the very real chance that she will be turned away, which means an appointment wasted and needing to be re-booked.
There are many other people being vaccinated in the same hall at the same time. Some have been very wary of being near other people and coming to the centre for their vaccine is a real challenge. Faced with an unmasked baby would make them even more nervous.
Out of consideration for others I would advise against it.

  • I posted a thread about my siblings vaccine appt yesterday and no jab.  Our mum went in with my sister. It was a vaccine hub/clinic doing jabs - they were asked at the door and our mum just stated that she's the mum and her daughter is very nervous which she was and they allowed her in

I guess it is whoever is at the door, so it can be a hit/miss and you won't really know until the day.
Ideally, as others have stated, go alone but it worked for my sister but in your case if they do not allow the baby in, then you'd miss the jab.

Allowing someone to accompany a vulnerable person is not the same as taking a baby in.

my sibling is an adult and was nervous and if the person at the door said no even once, they would not have argued.
to the OP, phone the centre you are going but be warned, it will all depend who is at the door etc - state your case before going
    and see if they accept.

The difference is that, if your nervous sibling was told she couldn't be accompanied, she could have gone in on her own.
If someone arrives with a 6 month old baby and told the baby can't go in, they have to lose their appointment. Totally different situation.

    The horror!
  • I'm not a fan of needles, and having a screaming baby in the booth next door certainly wouldn't help.
Yes I know they don't all scream etc, but if by chance they were to have a tantrum at the worst time, it wouldn't be great for those around them.

I've got a feeling the problem with the baby being "unmasked" isn't because of noise it might make...
