Altered timesheet

What is the legal position on a manager altering a signed timesheet, that they forward onto payroll without informing the employee who filled it in correctly?

in what way was it altered? Did anyone benefit from the alteration? Can it be proved who actually altered it?0

It had hours deducted off it last month and its had more deducted again this. Nobody benefits other than a lower wage bill for a month that gets corrected next. I know who altered it last month as they admited it after I checked why there was a difference with hours and wages with payroll.
After I sign the timesheet it it goes to my manager who authorises it and sends it off to payroll, I have an online roster as well as my own record that I check off each month. If there are discrepancies the usual method was that the manager would call you to check and then its adjusted if needed. its only since a new manager has been employed that dicrepencies in wages have occured and timesheets have been altered without my knowledge until I investigate.
P.S All my timesheets are correctly filled In if I added hours I'd not worked I'd be sacked for fraud.0 -
Is it just you, or are others finding this happen too? I'm thinking strength in numbers ...Signature removed for peace of mind0

Since the manager has to authorise the timesheet perhaps they are altering non-authorised hours for some reason?
Just a guess though.
I'd say the first step would be to simply ask the manager why they are altering the timesheet before signing it off.1 -
Can you request copies of your altered timesheets from Payroll? If you can't then email or speak to them & say "Can I check my pay as it shows on my payslip that I have been paid X hours but on the timesheet I gave to my manager, I had worked Y hours".0

The issues with correct wages are an ongoing issue(or at least since the new manager started) for all staff on a similar contract in the same department Its the timesheets getting to payroll thats been the biggest issue . I'm constantly asking my employer to look into why its carrying on and suggesting alternative methods.
The altered timesheets are a recent one and are signed and sent to the manager, then they are being altered without my knowledge.
Payroll. My contract holder and my manager are considered independent of each other. Although we all work for the same organisation.0 -

The manager themselves has told me to follow a different protocol when looking for the problem, before I'd ask payroll, theyd say where the discrepany is between my hours and what they recieve then I contact the person responsible who'd changed it. This alteration can only have been made to a signed timesheet by either the manager or office I hand it into(The Manager admitted it was them last time).
My main point of the thread is: Can they legally alter a signed document, without my permission. And can they deduct or add something that isn't true.0 -

Due to complicated payslip method. they will write up what I've been paid for when I request one each month and check this off with my own written down hours and the online roster(incase they've altered this to) I cannot adjust the roster only the manager of the department and Manager/Supervisor of the site can do this.
And due to Covid-19(home working) they can take weeks to resolve, by which time its to late to be paid for those hours missing until next month.0 -
they would normally send the sheet back to you and ask you to change it before they will authorise it. strange that they didn't do this. have you asked him why he didn't?0

With previous managers or a supervisor a call would be made to the employee should a timesheet differ from a roster i.e a mistake or an extra hour or two added as overtime, to confirm. If anything including a signiture was missed you woud either sign it or send a new updated timesheet.
The current manager changes the timesheet which is already signed by the employee without informing them first as to why. If they followed the previous system then I'd explain that those hours were worked and are on the roster as proof.
If I filled in the timesheet in an attempt to fraudulenty claim for hours not worked or even not authorised by the manager direct or via the supervisor i'd be dismissed for fraud.
The point of this thread is to assatain whether its acceptable or even legal to alter an already signed document without the knowledge of the employee so it results in them being paid incorrectly?
Without going into detail there is a long standing isue with the manager in question messing up an losing mine and others timesheets after they've been handed in. I'm not going to elaborate more on this.0
