BT Broadband - Freebies

Somewhere on this part of the site I recall coming across posts by a user "Drunkster" who openly states he/she works for BT and encourages Money Savers to phone and simply ask for better broadband deals.

My contract with Eclipse was up for renewal so I took a leaf out of the drunkster's book and phoned them to see what they could "do for me"

An unimpressive reduction from 19.99 to 17.99 a month if I sign up for another 18 months. All sing together - Good bye eclipse I must leave you.

I went to BT and have been delighted with this package (option2) http://www.productsandservices.bt.com/consumerProducts/displayTopic.do?topicId=15761 which offers not only cheap broadband - matching the 17.99 eclipse offered but includes:-
  • Free Home hub that allows wifi (wire free) connection of PCs, laptops and gaming consoles. The BT Home Hub also allows you to get BT Vision.
  • Free Digital TV recorder
  • Exactly the same download speed (5mbs in my area) as existing broadband provider
  • 350 free wifi minutes with BT Fon network hundreds of hotspot around the UK
  • Free weekend and evening phone calls.
If drunkster happens to read this no doubt he'll suggest ways of getting even more out of them.

I don't know if you can "negotiate" for even better deals once you've accepted this option.
Let the wind free, where e'r you may be.

  • I went for the 12 month version, option 2, same price each month £17.99 - i take your point though some of the headline deals for are dare I say misleading.

The only leeway we have is when your contract with us is up I am afraid. The 12 month option is 17.99 for 3 months then 22.99 for the remainder.

  • Hey Drunkstar apologies for gettng you name wrong earlier.

You're dead right it IS only for the first three months - then it does go to a much higher monthly rate. I couldn't read the "extra" part of the promotion - someone should bring web accessibility to BT's attention - feint grey writing hardly "stands out".

Will update following chasing this up - hopefully not too late to do something to improve matters
