Buying a car that has previously been on PCP

Options
Hi there,
I'm looking at buying a used 2017 Nissan Juke, the dealership have confirmed that it is direct from Renault Financial Services privately owned end of finance PCP.
How likely is it that the previous keeper will have abused the car if they weren't planning to keep it long term, also in 2020 - at its first MOT it was noted that the front brake pads and disks were worn, seems a little more than would be expected at 40,000 miles?
Thanks for your help, much appreciated.
I wish I knew more than I do!! :)

Where did you think 3 year old second hand cars came from. Vast majority of new cars are hired on 3 year deals with no intention of being kept beyond three years. Any second hand car is a gamble.

Worn discs and pads at 40000 just suggests to be it spent all of the first three years on urban roads. Alternatively it could just be a very cautious mot tester or a kwik fit mot trying to upsell new pads and discs.
  • Well firstly thank you for your reply.  I understand, of course, that all used cars are second hand and have their own issues. However my query was if the mentality of knowing you are going to hand the car back at the end of 3 years makes owners thrash them knowing that they will not have the long term maintenance to be concerned about.
Thank you for the information about the brakes, very helpful.

Cars are checked at the end of the 3/4 year PCP period and the keepers are charged for damage.  I wouldn't think too much worse than any other normal used car.  I think you are overthinking this massively.

The majority of people that have cars under PCP finance will be treating the car as if they own it, whether they always planned to hand the car back or not. The cars should be properly serviced and generally looked after as it can be costly handing back a car that's not in a reasonable condition. I would say buying an ex-PCP vehicle is no different to any used car purchase.

At 40k, I'd be surprised if they were the original pads. Discs, possibly.

They may well of been planning on keeping it, but have found they are not using it in the pandemic. 40k in 3 years is quite high are you going to be doing less than average to bring the average miles down, that’s if you plan to change before it dies.

Oh and the brakes, get the disks and pad changed before purchasing.

Mine was 110k at 3 years, 40k sounds average!
