  • I'm not too concerned about the account,  happy to walk away after all this
    It's more the aftermath.
Am I a target now for other lenders to drop me? What is CIFAS, National Hunter?
Will I have a mark that will stop me from getting a house rented or mortgage?
Why can't I be given a chance to contest this? Where is the legislation to protect us and give a fair hearing?
It's not a phone contact, it's a lifeline to function in society.

Unfortunately, banking agreements work both ways. Either side can close the account (although withholding access to funds is done if their system suspects a breach of terms under their section 12.2 of the personal current account terms - such as reasonably suspecting false info has been provided). All Natwest applications are screened through National Hunter which is a fraud prevention database. You can get a copy of this information held on the database by emailing them a data subject access request.

Natwest are notorious for their overzealous algorithms (there's a Facebook group with over £5k members) that terminate relationships on a return from National Hunter or some other trigger etc.

You'll only have significant problems if you've got any adverse data on the CIFAS database as this is a database of confirmed (rather than suspect) frauds.
  • Thanks for your reply.
So worried about the CIFAS marker, there was never an intention by me to defraud anyone at all.
What does paying for the protection do? On their website it mentions I can have additional checks made for a fee.
Do I lose this right if I have a marker against me?

cross that bridge when you come to it - just check with CIFAS using sar if you do or do not have a marker.

If you've been a VICTIM of fraud (identity theft) then such a marker would cause further checks to be done on any applications in your details to prevent you been a victim again.

The other markers are put on to warn CIFAS members that you've been involved in confirmed fraud.

For what it's worth, I doubt you'll have anything on CIFAS. The only way you'll find out is by submitting a data subject access request. You can also check National Hunter by sending them one.

What is the situation with your partners account? Is that closed too?
If Natwest didnt warn you then you should be aware that making a joint application for an account will link your credit records
Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.

For some reason, the OP ignores the question what the situation with her partner's account is after the application for a joint account.
And it's not even clear (at least to me) whether the account became available to the OP again and they are just annoyed there was some delay in releasing money.

When do this happen of you have had time to " I've emailed NatWest complaints, Ombudsman, MP and CEOs office no responses."
You say you had restricted to your money. What have you done with it? Have you moved it to another bank?
What happened to your partner's account? Was it  also restricted?

there was never an intention by me to defraud anyone at all.
Is there something you are not telling us?
