The job was offered but turned down. Working on another application now.

Did the daily interest on the mortgage calculation: £5.39 - what a lot of money on interest. So this month £167.09 just on interest. Over the year £1967.35 - what I could do with that money…

Mortgage down to £39000s. I think £37000 was the mortgage on our old house when we moved here. Will be nice to see it get back there.

Well done to Mr Agatha for knowing what he wants 👍️

  • Mr Agatha is now off work. Hopefully the medication will reduce the anxiety to a more manageable level. I’d like him to look into talking therapies as well but he doesn’t want to. His work are being good and we all realise he can’t stay where he is but a solution hasn’t yet presented itself.

Moneywise we tend to do better at the start of the year although currently paying for driving lessons and tutor which are on the pricey side. Holidays are booked and mainly paid for. Still overpaying mortgage while we can. Would like to get it to £35000 before we remortgage.

  • Sorry to hear about Mr. Agatha. I hope he is ok. It must be a lot for you to be dealing with.

    Retiring August 31st 2026.
  • Thank you @glass_half_full . It’s been a difficult few weeks. Medication is helping and he’s phasing back to work. Not a long term solution but being off work isn’t good for his mental health either.

Having fun playing with mortgage overpayment calculator. Playing with using university saving pots to overpay the mortgage. I’m too risk averse to do this (I think) but nice to know if we threw money at the mortgage it would be paid in 2.5 years instead of 3.5-6 years. I’d always hoped to have it paid off by 50. Just really impatient to have it gone.

Watching a Location, location. Can’t understand the rationale of one couple renting a really expensive house (gym, garage, garden) but have required to borrow from family to get a deposit. Now mid 40s they are taking on a £300000 mortgage. I know circumstances are different but surely they could have rented somewhere smaller, saved a deposit and started paying off the mortgage earlier. It is interesting the different decisions we all make.

Away for a work trip this week. School shirts ironed. Rest of uniforms in machine. Will do some food shopping to see them through the start of the week.

  • Did all of the above.

It’s been a long week. My work travel, despite me staying in the UK leaves me feeling like I have jet lag for days after. Not helped by a day trip to Edinburgh yesterday with lots of walking. We’ve decided to rest this morning and not go for a run. Hopefully I’ll feel more alive by tomorrow.

My little stakeholder pension is now up to £24000 and projecting almost an additional £2000 per year alongside my NHS pension. For a long time it was only projecting an additional £600 a year. The additional small payments are making a difference. It will be helpful in the pre-state pension years.
