Travelling in May?

I’m in the same position as you are. We are going away mid-May (moved from May 2020) My initial plan is to wait until Boris Johnson does his next press conference where he announces schools are to return and see if he mentions anything regarding things opening or travel restrictions. We will then see if the travel company we have our holiday package with (Tui) update their website. If we don’t hear before mid March (71 days before the holiday) we’re going to cancel and just lose our deposit money. I have worked out by the time I pay for COVID testing for 2 people, add insurance and spending money it’s just throwing more money at something we won’t enjoy!1

This is our plan at present, too. I have the 71 day date in my phone and we will cancel if it hasn't already been cancelled by them. Got my fingers crossed that they will so we get the full amount back but I'm not willing to pay for covid testing and whatever else, it was already an expensive holiday that we have saved like mad for!gymgirl11 said:I’m in the same position as you are. On the plus side we will be able to save a bit more before we rebook and maybe go for longer when we do.Never say never0 -
Spain is following the EU's advice on border closures, which is that the EU is firmly off limits for non-EU nationals in the UK until the case numbers drop below about 50/100000 population in the previous 2 weeks and remains there for a while. The UK is currently at 295/100000.
I do know when we are currently tracking to reach the 50 mark, but there's no point posting it here as there is no guarantee at all that the current trend will continue and I don't want to force you into a decision at this stage as we do not know.
There is also no guarantee that Spain will be off the UK's travel advice list in this time, especially as their numbers are significantly higher than those in the UK at approximately 670, without the downward trend of the UK.
We will know more from February 22, so there will be enough time for you to decide.💙💛 💔2 -
Our twice deferred May 2021 Brittany Ferries long sea crossing/hotel package is in early May, but I'm with CJhalvashi above in that I'm waiting til Boris' promised review w/b 22 Feb in case there is some more clarity... although I doubt there will be any helpful forcasts then. When I rang in a week ago, the usually helpful call centre staff were still vague about what there Company's policy will be, given all the possible scenarios.
BF helpfully deferred the last two dates at our request even before cancelletion was certain; first from May 2020 to Sept '20, then again to 2021 without charge, but I suspect that if we defer a third time we'll cop the amendment fee. But that's only £25 -£50 so no big deal as the holiday itself is really cheap. And we're lucky in that there's a "42-day prior" deadline on cheap changes, and a 46 day deadline before cancellation fees get huge.
So we could play poker til well into March... but why bother- rather than risk it, we'll probably decide to cancel or defer at the end of this month!
But we've had such great service from BF that we're happy to roll with any blows they (or the Sanish and UK governments) inflict!
Buen viaje

I'd just wait until mid-March then.girlybags said:Just to say that after mid March if we have to cancel ourselves we will lose a lot more money than the £60pp.
Hold out the longest you can before cancelling yourself, even if you know that's what you're going to end up doing.

Make sure you read exactly what your paperwork and the T&Cs say.
To me, It looks as though £60pp is one of those low deposit things and if you cancel, you may well be liable for a much higher amount0 -
I agree with Jamo that the figure you're quoting looks like a low deposit offer to me. If so then you'll be asked to pay the difference between this figure and what the full deposit per person would have been at the time of booking if you cancel. Read the small print on your booking T's and C's very carefully as it should be clearly set out there.0

The website states that the deposit is £60pp so I'm assuming that's how much it will be 🤷♀️Never say never0

How much deposit is required?
Your deposit for a Jet2holidays booking will be £60 per person. At the time of booking you will be given the option of paying the full balance or simply paying a deposit of £60 per person, with the full balance being payable 10 weeks before departure. In the event that your booking is within 10 weeks of departure, payment must be made in full at the time of booking.
