Does car insurance increase the more quotes you look out for?

Hello I have been looking for car insurance for my dad using money saving expert article about 10 way to cut insurance costs. I have been happy with first results and I started tweaking some things and checking if I can make it even cheaper like job title or date of insurance etc and suddenly I started getting quotes about £150-£200 more expensive. Even though I reverted to old information those cheap quotes I got at beginning no longer appear. Is it possible that me searching for quotes made some insurance companies more expensive or not wanting to give my dad a quote? I even went on website of two insurance companies my dad's car was insured with in the past and after entering all the details it say that they cannot provide a quote. Like any quote not at all? That is what I found strange. Does the time of the day I look up the quotes matter?

Thanks in advance

Yes, it's not the number of quotes but the constant changing of information, which makes the insurer think that you providing false information to obtain a cheaper quote. You cannot be trusted, i.e lying.

You have activated their anti-fraud measures.

No. The number of quotes is not an issue. Its the changing for material facts that has done it.

If I did activate their anti-fraud measures what should I do now? I was not trying to put false information. Everything I did was to be honest in margin.
  • You need to pick one story and stick to it.

If someone offers you insurance at a half decent price, grab it.

I do know it now but I am not worried if those insurance companies will give me a normal offers again. If it will go away after some days or longer.
  • It may have less effect st next year's renewal, as long as the story doesn't change again.

I agree with that interpretation, and there have been some similar threads that show the same experience.

It is, though, highly unfortunate that some of the guides out there and certain journalists suggest to do exactly that "tweak job titles", "tweak mileage", "tweak this", "tweak that" to find the lowest price.  None of these guides ever suggest the risk of triggering the fraud alerts.

The only thing the OP can do, possibly, is wait a couple of day, clear all cookies and cache and then start afresh with just one set of data and take the best price available.  Also, possibly consider the direct insurers rather than the same comparison sites.  May not be any help, but what is there to lose now?

It could be that the latest quote is more expensive because you are now almost at the renewal date. Insurers consider last-minuters to be a higher risk (maybe because commencing journeys at the last minute is more likely to result in them speeding/taking more risk?).
Difficult to say if this might be the cause because we have no idea if the £150 increase is 10% or double.
