Wedding Help Covid

Options
Hi
We had to postpone our wedding in 2020 due to covid and moved the date to July this year. It is unlikely we can go ahead as planned and have the number for guests that we booked for.

We have contacted the venue and all the suppliers  who have agreed to move to a new date in 2022. All apart from our photographer who won't move us. And says if we cancel we will lose all the £1200 we have paid to him.

Surely he cannot keep all our money can he? He hasn't had to pay for anything

  • What does your contract with him say?
If you go down to the woods today you better not go alone.
  • That we have to give 6 months notice, wedding in July. I messaged him in Nov. But he emailed back saying we should wait it out.

    What did you reply?

He's still trying it on though. Just let him know he’s the only one behaving like this and if he did try to keep your deposit and not move you, you will go to the press about him.

    Happy moneysaving all.
  • Left it be because I was then bombarded with loads of generic emails about booking the wedding - like thanks for your enquiry we will contact you. Over and over again. Until yesterday.
I have told him he is the only one being difficult.

Quite funny, his reply in Nov was to wait because everything will be better after 2 Dec. His reply today is to wait because everything is going to be better after March.

Getting fed up of him now, would rather he wasn't at the wedding with this attitude. But he has £1200 of my money that he refuses to give back.
  • Can't get through to Citizens Advice, but what can I do if he refuses to give me my money back?

How did you pay him? Is a charge back possible?
Life is like a bath, the longer you are in it the more wrinkly you become.
  • Was either debit card or bank transfer
  • What do the T&C's say about refunding deposits
Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.
  • In his contract there is a £400 non refundable deposit. We have paid just over £1200 with more money due. He has said if we cancel we won't have to pay the remaining balance but will lose any money paid. Because he has had a tough year...

I'm not sure you'll get the £400 back, but Small Claims court for the rest if you paid by bank transfer.
