Note to others: always clear your loft!!

I thought I had a reasonable idea what was in my mother's loft. When clearing her house, A couple of friends  cleared it for me as I couldn't get in and I was puzzled at how inaccurate my memory was, and how little there was in there.

Since then I have realised that the many boxes I thought were there were probably covered up when new loft insulation was put in so at some point someone may discover  quite a large amount of stuff. Whether they have yet I've no idea; it was seven years ago.

A relative was tidying their loft after being there 10 years and found an air rifle. It certainly did not belong to them, so must have been left by a previous owner.

I'd be tempted to send her a 'without prejudice' letter explaining that you offer £100 (say, amend as appropriate) in full and final settlement of the claim.  State that further correspondence from the buyer will not be replied to and enclose a cheque for your chosen amount.
Make a copy and send it Recorded Delivery
If she cashes the cheque, the matter is closed.  She can still start proceedings, but cannot do so having accepted the money.
I would just make the offer - no advantage in sending a cheque really (I'm not sure "without prejudice" is actually as magic a form of words as people tend to think).

You are correct as I found out in a small claims case the District Judge admitted a letter I had sent without prejudice and there was nothing I could do about it.

These solicitors and many others disagree with you.

Our vendors left rubbish in the loft (old suitcases etc). It wasn't professionally boarded per se but had a few bridging bits of plywood loosely arranged. The shed also had tat along with the sides of the house next to the fences (old inflatable pools etc)

It is really annoying as basically it is rubbish they don't want but are too lazy to take to the tip themselves. I haven't contacted anyone because I plan to just do a few car loads to the tip. I think more annoying because we ourselves left our house in immaculate condition for our buyers
Same here - but picked up a puncture during the tip run.  Never again would I just suck it up, no way we could claim the puncture, should have got people in to clear it and claimed their costs.

Just spoken to a solicitor who says not to send any money to the buyer but instead to pay the company I have received a quote from directly. Told him that I doubt very much that she will agree to me instructing someone to clear her loft but he assures me that I am not the one acting unreasonably and the court would see that.

Stop worrying and stop emailing your solicitor, it will cost you. Just take his advice. Everyone on here and your solicitor has told you she will get nowhere if she takes it further. Write to her saying that you will clear the loft or pay this company to do it and that you will not be discussing the matter further. Then ignore her. She will move on to her next victim
