Depends what the individual wants to achieve.

I have always had them. Ranging from bubbly flappy plastic in the early iPhone days on to tempered glass. Since I look after my phones I can sell them on in great condition.

It only became a problem with my Galaxy S10 with the fingerprint sensor being on the screen - it's a bit hit and miss which is annoying. My wife's A71 recognises hers no problem but I believe they scan using different technology??

In contrast, I have my works phone with no protector since they didn't provide one and I'm not paying out of my own pocket for one. I haven't dropped it once but its incredibly scratched now. I'd hate my own phone to look like this.

Not had one since the iPhone 3G many moons ago....Still have all my phones intact and virtually scratch free. I guess it depends on how careless/clumsy you are.

In this lockdown, I need a phone repair shop specialist to install it.
Do you know anybody who will do it in the Midlands?
Vap Phone in Market Drayton, although closed will answer the phone and come to the door to assist.
  • This lockdown has taught us, the main thing is to do it yourself. If we don't know how to replace LCD display then we learn from youtube and we can fix it. but the only thing to do is need to buy good quality phone parts. it can be bought from mobilesentrix

Yes, if you own a £1000 handset it could save you potentially £100s in screen replacement costs.

OP, many screen protectors these days come with a fitting tray which makes it a doddle to install and get the alignment right. I'm using the Belkin Ultraglass screen protector for both my Iphone 12 Pro and 12 Mini and it was a doddle to fit them - they came with a fitting tray and clear instructions:

The damage that causes a full screen replacement is more often down to people dropping phones onto their edge and no screen protector is going to prevent that. With the updates in screen glass technology, driven by the likes of Gorilla Glass, I've not used a screen protector for many years and have never had issues with scratches, and I do pretty much chuck my phones around like everyone else. You're better of investing in a decent bumper case to protect the edge of the phone.

The only caveat I make is that of Iphones, you only need to breath heavy on one of Apple's creations and your risk the screens exploding into tiny fragments, or at least that seem to be the experiences of just about everyone I know that's owned one.

The thread is from February so I'd imagine the OP has it sorted by now.
  • I’ve never cracked an iPhone screen yet.
A bumper case is the lost important accessory you can have.
