How to find out when a flight was cancelled

Is there a website that will enable you to work out when a flight was cancelled?
I'm due to fly to the US on 31/3 but if things stand as they are I won't be able to enter the US so the best case scenario is that the airline cancels the flight - they've currently cancelled the flight up to 27/3 & was wondering when they made this decision

Even if the flight goes ahead ,would you not be allowed to enter the USA if you are a UK citizen
  • I think the answer is to wait.  They will probably cancel it but will doing it in batches so people don’t all claim at once.

The airline will need to notify you if they do cancel the flight.

We did contact them recently to ask what the options were, given the entry restrictions, & were told then that flights to our destination had been reduced from 4 a day to 1 a day & it was highly likely that our flight would be cancelled.

I was asking more out of interest as a February flight to New Orleans got cancelled in December.

Probably down to managing the workflow. Number of passengers to contact and reschedule etc. Will be done in batches.

In addition to this, it appears that many flights aren't actually being cancelled until 2-3 weeks before departure (meaning that OP will be offered a move onto another flight, but at the same time have a right to a refund), merely withdrawn from sale.

They may be re-added to planned schedules if demand comes in.

I know with certainty that one airline for sure is working like this, and understand from discussions with someone in management at another that it's the case for that company too.

Some carriers will be withdrawing selected flights earlier, offering more certainty to their customers, and this is their commercial decision to do so.

  • Just a quick update - had an email overnight to say the flight has been cancelled (yeah!) but they've moved us to the later flight (boo!) but because they've cancelled the original flight if we don't want to take the new flight we can cancel.

    Great news!

A refund is a legal right now, and I'd assume should come reasonably quickly now many backlogs have cleared.

Only just seen this thread, but in case anyone else is in the 'will they cancel my flight' stage, here's a tip...

Often for a while before they cancel, the airline will stop accepting new bookings.  There are a couple of ways of checking: (a) try a dummy booking for your flight on their website, or (if you're a frequent flyer or know someone who is) (b) check expertflyer.com for flight availability.
  • That is true tocsin but you still can’t do anything until it is officially cancelled. Some people have made the mistake of canceling their flights prematurely.  (Not saying they wouldn’t eventually get their money back if it proves the flight is cancelled but it complicates things).  All advice is to continue checking your account section but wait for official confirmation.
