I'm please CCleaner has stopped the run around you used to have to go through to update it, now it updates itself without making you go to the website - much better1

The detection is only relevant to warn people who might leave the Install Avast button ticked
Presumably you advise never Installing Adobe Reader because it asks if you want to install Mcafee0 -

I have run Windows since 3.0 and have never found these "cleaners" effective - and I have had to sort out a number of computers where the user has done a "registry clean" and completely screwed up the registry. I have never found any performance benefits and you can clean up your computer very effectively using W10 - just type "cleanup" into the search bar, bottom left of your screen, without the quotes. My advice - keep well away from these "cleaners" - they do almost nothing for system performance. At best they put overhead on your system - at worst, they wreck it.

Windows 3.0 did not have a registry
I have never seen a PC destroyed by CCleaner and we have deployed it on hundreds of machiles0 -

Microsoft are concerned that applications which "optimise" the registry and other Windows components do more harm than good. If they are concerned, then that is good enough for me.I also have 0 trust for Avast, given that for a while they made CCleaner collect information without an opt out.Windows 10 doesn't really need optimising, save for an occasional disk cleanup. The only tools I recommend for any kind of cleanup or analysis of Windows in addition to those bundled with the OS, are the SysInternals suite. Primarily because they are portable, stand alone executables and also because of Mark Russinovich's involvement in the development of the tools. He has a profound knowledge of Windows. Microsoft acquired the winternals company + sysinternals tools and now Mark Russinovich is the Azure CTO.

The OP has not asked about the Registry nor have they suggested utilising CCleaner to do anything with the Registry.
A few people have taken it upon themselves to hijack the thread in order to highlight just ONE of the tools available within CCleaner. Scaremongering. Suggesting that it is classified as a Potentially Unwanted Program without mentioning that it is because the general build gives an option to install an Avast product.
Disk Cleanup doesn't clean up your Browsers, only the cache, so not a substitute. But why let facts get in the way of a thread hijack?2 -
Of course it is relevant.
OP complains about a startup program highlighted by CCleaner. Simple answer is remove CCleaner as it is not needed and not recommended.

No my friend. You are out of touch on this one. That is your simple answer and your recommendation. Which I am sure everyone reading this thread will disregard as simplistic advice.
CCleaner is a useful tool; dependent on how you utilise it. You could argue that most programs are not necessary. But CCleaner can do things that Windows does not on it's own. It also puts some functions together that the average user might want to access, without having to dig deep into the innards of Windows.
I have four different Browsers on my device. With CCleaner I can clean them all at the same time, instead of having to go through each Browser's settings in order to do so..
Which average user is going to use Sysinternals? I think you are losing most of the readers when you start referring to esoteric tools. Most people want easy. CCleaner as opposed to Sysinternals AutoRuns. We help them with that. If you are happy to help them with AutoRuns, go ahead.

Anyone use Ccleaner as their default web browser?...is it any good?
