Buying on eBay without a PayPal account.

I would be quite happy to never sell on eBay again but I expect to carry on buying on eBay regularly, mainly from business sellers.
If I close my PayPal account, how would that affect my ability to buy items on eBay? I would close the account with a zero balance. I would not close it while owing them money.
Do many sellers accept credit cards or is there another safe method of payment I could use that is widely accepted by business sellers? I don't care if I can no longer buy from private sellers as I rarely do that anyway.
Thanks

A man walked into a car showroom.
He said to the salesman, “My wife would like to talk to you about the Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
Salesman said, “We haven't got a Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
The man replied, “You have now mate".

Its not just ebay though. Just bought a load of stuff from a Chinese seller and paid them using Paypal. Other paymentoptions were who/what never heard of that and a website that popped up a month or two ago.Paid with Paypal and even though the items were not due until late next week they arrived today. With the delivery estimate i was thinking it maybe direct from China and not the UK warehouse theyclaimed. But all good and no worries paying with Paypal. You can live a life with no paypal or ebay or bank cards even, just makes life harder and its going to beone day when something you really want goes to another buyer because you could not pay instantly withpaypal.Costs nothing to leave the account open and they give you good offers if you dont use them for a while,so why close the account?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...1

Private sellers don't normally accept cards. Lots and lots of business sellers do. If there is something you want to buy from a business sellers you would be pretty likely to have a choice of sellers and easily be able to buy by card.
If you are hesitant about closing your paypal account then you could instead leave the account open but remove all linked bank account and cards. If ever in the future you needed to pay by paypal, send the exact money there by logging onto your bank account and sending a faster payment.1 -
You can buy on eBay and make a payment via PayPal without having a PayPal account. A friend does this from time to time as for some reason they refuse to have a PayPal account.
The system tries to steer you towards opening a PP account but you don't have to and can make on off payments with your credit or debit card.
Personally I have a PP account linked to a bank account with a smallish balance that I use for little else. My PP is not linked to a credit card. That keeps everything nice a separate but obviously if I unexpectedly want to make a more significant PP purchase I do need to transfer enough money into the bank account first.2 -

however I believe this is now changing and people who have "managed" accounts are paid directly from ebay , not paypal
as a buyer , you can (as shown above) pay by debit/credit OR (and for the poster above) pay by paypal , which will either take it from your paypal balance or from a bank accout/card linked to paypal
the debit/credit cards shown above are NOT guest accounts with paypal , they show on bank statement as ebay XXXXX

good point above - opening a paypal case for eg item not received is probably easier that asking your card company for chargeback, although in both methods of course you are able to.open an ebay case0

EITHER your card co or paypal , if you have paid by card (NOT PAYPAL) why would paypal assist you
in fact dont banks moan that your money went to paypal , not the end person , and paypal is not uk reg is it? , or regulated in uk0 -
I buy on eBay all the time on my personal account and I haven't used PP for many months. Few days ago, I just closed my personal account. I won't be using it. I still have my business PP as a seller on eBay on trading account, as I have to accept PP, not on managed payments yet. But as soon as they offer it to me, I will be closing business PP account as well.

Sorry if I am missing the point here but I have had to give bank details to Ebay for my sellers to buy as they are no longer using Paypal0
