What condition to leave walls in

  • Not worried about the painting so much as it will take a few minutes but when i remove the things like stair gates and tvs there will be alot of damage to brick work and plaster board i want to take these massive raw plug/ anchor things with me so it will be better to fill them in then bung some paint over to look like they were never there. Its a quick job and i think this is the way i would like to find the house if it was me moving in. lol
I guess if you are taking the anchors with you yes patching up the hole is a must. I have asked our seller to leave all the plugs etc as I would prefer to see if any of my pictures etc fit and I also have control of the quality in filling any holes.

I will be asking the buyer what she would prefer as she might intend in getting someone in to/redecorate herself.

ABSOLUTELY the right way to look at it!
I agree hence why I want to check what the minimum status quo is. Also asking the buyer what she would like me to do in line with the minimum requirement.
  • Irishpearce26 when we left our home, there were a few holes left from where we removed pictures, mirrors etc.  We cleaned our home thoroughly before we left, we left the matching tub of paint for the new owners, a New Home card and a bottle of Prosecco and to date, they still forward the odd letter that goes to our former address.  These things are to be expected.   If you have time and you are that worried about it, then make good the holes etc but if you don't have the time, please don't stress.  Your new owners will just want a clean, empty home and will redecorate it and make good etc, as soon as they possibly can. All the best.

When we moved into our current house, we just put pictures up where there were already hooks!

Just got the fixtures and fittings form for the house we now are in the process of buying and they are taking practically everything except the carpets! Bit worried as they are taking all the light fittings and curtain poles. We like the way the house is decorated and didn’t want to have to redo every room, but if there are holes/rawl plugs we won’t be able to just leave it as is...

We are leaving everything (attached) in our current house as I don’t want to make a mess for the new owner, will have to shell out for new curtain poles and redecoration for every room now. Hey ho, it’s nice when people consider these things.
  • We moved last month and I filled all holes and painted over.

The one we moved to left all screws and hooks in the wall except where they took every single curtain pole 🙄 they moved abroad, honestly no idea why they wanted to take curtain poles.

I spent the first two days going around dragging them out and filling holes. And putting up curtain tracks. I was planning on painting anyway so it wasn't too bad, and I am used to fixing other people's DIY as the last house we owned was the same.

  • when I bought my current place the seller did a really bad job of sorting out these minor DIY things. TV bracket anchors holes were a mess and a wall was repainted with paint all over the sockets and coving.
I would honestly have preferred they left as is and I could sort it out (if I wanted to, I may have wanted a TV bracket anchor point).
So in summary, fix anything that is really bad but don't try to guess what they want. They may want to put up their own pictures/TV/whatever in the same place and it is a lot easier to use the existing anchors. They saw the property and know that if there are pictures on the walls they are not held there with sellotape.

Just leave as is. You have no idea of their plans for the place, and they are buying ‘as seen’.
  • Thanks everyone quite a mixed bag of opinions which makes this forum very helpful. Having reviewed the fixtures and fittings document it states to take care when removing and fixtures or fittings to cause as little damage as possible. I will leave any anchors in place and fill in any plastic plug holes, I don't have paint so will leave as is.
  • So the house is now empty and we were able to get in to do a pre-exchange check and measure up for new furniture. This is some pictures of the state of some of the walls, no amount of filler will fix that haha. Window also has a blown seal and is misted. Thankfully the EA did an inspection on behalf of the developer the seller had part ex with so should get a good resolution. Complete on the 3rd.
