O/S Daily Friday 12 February 2021
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Dark and cold start yet again.
DH and DS1 getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner last night was beef stew with dumplings, mash and broc - beef wasn't very nice, but I'd bought the meat from somewhere I don't usually and now I remember why! Tonight will be something quick and easy with chips for the menfolk. I'll have fishcakes - I've got some fish to use up in the fridge and some LO mash so will make them from this so no waste.
Yesterday I was reasonably productive and I did get done some of what I wanted - most of the washing is up to date anything left will get done today. The plumber came out and has hopefully stopped the little leak from the washing/dishwasher machine under the sink pipework. Dishwasher engineer company rang to say the part we've been waiting for since before xmas has now arrived and they want to book to come out to fit. So all these things have been dealt with. Today I'll be heading to the SM first thing, then home to do the remaining jobs I want to get done.
Keep safe and well x

Morning all
Ive not been up this early for a while but we need to leave here just after 8 and I need at least two cups of tea to function.
Well today we say goodbye to our dear Steve, he was such a character, never had a penny to his name always had a twinkle in his eye especially when he was up to no good, his sense of humour was fantastic he was a kind gentle giant of over 6ft 5 and has left a gaping hole. Today will be hard for us all but especially mum, you should never have to bury a child. Rest in peace Steve, what a brilliant big brother you were.
Stay safe all xx19 -
Morning folks.Ruby - it's a rotten day for you and your family. It won't be easy but you will all be honouring your brother. 🥰 I well remember flying out to Oz for my own brother's funeral and how awful it was for my DM who wasn't able to travel. I'll raise a wee dram to your Steve tonight.Yesterday I collected my new batter bowl, despite being advertised as small it's surprisingly bigger than I thought. Mind you, it's a lovely shape, has a handle and, more importantly, DW safe. All of DM's bowls, and there are many, are so old I wouldn't dare put them in the machine. The early melamine ones are especially fragile. This afternoon I have an appointment with the dental surgeon who wants to check on the two surgery sites. I won't be there very long I hope. I'm expecting my new laptop, should be today but I'm anticipating that it will have been delayed by the bad weather. The crack on the lid of this one is getting larger each day, I may have to use some tape on it.No word yet from my neighbour, I'll text him later. The problem is that the outside tap is running and it's stuck. He'll take a hammer to it no doubt. He's a plumber so will sort it out. The water in the house is OK.My thoughts are with you all, as we get nearer to more freedom it feels more difficult. I get angry every morning when I read about parties being broken up, a gathering of up to 300 on the Town Moor in Newcastle yesterday. 🤬
For now, happy Friday to all. Keep snug.12 -
Morning folks and thanks NMLC. RUBY my heart goes out to you and I hope all goes as well as it can. I can't imagine how your DM must be feeling. It's so very sad.
Another cold one, it's currently minus 4 deg but set to reach 0 deg later! So we will still have the lying snow for another day or two yet. As confined to barracks I don't suppose it matters.
Friday Tidy in store for me and maybe the remaining two windows and frames will get done too. Or maybe they won't! As usual, there is always tomorrow! Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for all in need of them. RUBY and MARIE in my thoughts as always. CAMELOT my loo did that last year and, because I am on a water meter, I had £ signs escalating before me at all the water getting wasted! Take care one and all and stay safe xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"14 -
Thinking of you RedRuby I hope all goes well today xx

Morning All
Love and thoughts are with you today Ruby.
Not quite as cold this morning but the snow is still lying. I hung out the washing yesterday and it all but dried, just aired it off on the radiators. I put the bedding back on the bed so it smelled lovely and fresh, had a decent nights sleep but had to stagger downstairs for the loo at 3, the upstairs one is still broken. I contacted a plumber yesterday but he can't come until next week, messaged another but haven't heard anything yet.
I gave up working from home yesterday, I don't think my internet is fast enough, everything was taking an age to download so I'll go into work today to try and sort things out. Not going in until 11 so will get the housework done before I go.
Gers, I get angry at the gatherings too. Watching those house parties in Glasgow being broken up made my blood boil, mostly students who say they know it's wrong but it's difficult for them. Well, it's difficult for all of us especially those who aren't as tech savvy as them and can't be in contact with loved ones. Grrrr.
Thinking of the poorlies and those stuggling, especially Marie. Take care. XX

Good morning and thank you for starting the thread nmlc.
Ruby I know today will be very hard as you say your farewell to your Steve. We will all be holding you in our hearts.
It is still in the minuses here, the sky is red - looks beautiful but is a sign of more bad weather so I don't think I'll be going far. I've been outside to feed the birds and the cold is biting. I'm just waiting for the heating to come on, I need a shower but not until the bathroom warms up a bit.
The car is still at the garage, it needs a washer motor or water meter or whatever it is, A Thing anyway and that has had to be ordered. Will cost about £300 which I think is ok given its age and the fact that having a car is useful though less so for the past year. I don't imagine we will get it back until next week unless the Thing arrives this morning and that doesn't much matter as at present, it is only used occasionally.
My naan bread pizza turned out well, I always enjoy making pizza and it is one of the few tomatoey things that I will eat.
I think I might have to make another cup of tea, just to have something warm to hold. Will pop back later.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back14 -
Good morning, we've had more snow here, but it looks as if it's going to be a bright day.I will be thinking of you and your family today Ruby, hope all goes as well as it can.15
