What does 'Alan' say? Both are good

Cardew posted this link here some years back which is worth the read:

If W-B are still making heat exchangers out of cheese, the more efficient Viessmann boilers have several clear advantages. Gas is probably only going to get more expensive as time goes on.0 -
W-B are a lot more tricky to fix if anything goes wrong so my engineer says and a lot of the innards are plastic now and prone to cracking.
I have a W-B and could get a smell of gas from it. Had W-B out a few times (plus other engineers & Cadent more times than I liked) and it turns out to be a design flaw. The case is folded so there are small gaps at the corners where any gas that hasn't been vented can seep into the room and the final fan purge doesn't get all of the gas out of the gas valve so if you have a good sense of smell you can pick up a slight smell of gas.
Apparently there is nothing wrong with the boiler, its designed to work this way so the solution was to take the cover off and use silicone sealant where the case folders are to stop the gas getting out.
Won't be getting another W-B that's for sure.0 -
DD has just had a Veissmann combi fitted and is very pleased with it, it is very quiet, has a stainless steel heat exchanger and a 10 year guarantee.1

So much to read, so little time.0 -
I wouldn't entertain a condensing boiler that didn't have an SS main exchanger.I assume WB has these too? If not, the decision for me would be made right there. (Sorry, ideal, you are out with your Ali.)Other than that, get quotes for both, compare their specs, list what's included with each - and what's covered by each warranty. There will probably be something there that'll help tip the decision one way.0

A lot of the Vaillant boilers now have aluminium heat exchangers.0

My 15-year old GlowWorm's is SS. And it's the only part that hasn't needed replacing :-(
