  • All those could easily be solved by employing a full time assistant to purchase items, collect items or wait available to receive delivered items, handing them to you at your leisure one they had collected/received them.

In terms of your first one, most couriers do now give you warning, both DPD and Yodel show that the driver is on drop 1 of 120 or whatever so you can estimate when they will be with you. Yes they give a two hour windows, but its better than it used to be.

and for the second one, Argos offer same day delivery, as does Amazon Prime and Prime Now (where available). Otherwise as you say some stores are partnering with Deliveroo and similar to do same day delivery too. Some independent shops are walking their local area too doing drop off. But you should also be willing to pay to get the extra service. Or again Argos and similar have same-day collection available.
Great point! I just wish the kind of service Argos and Prime Now offer was widely available wherever I shop... Not going to lie, it's mostly clothing, footwear, etc. haha
There are some sameday clothing deliveries in London, but they tend to be the high-end brands such as Net-a-Porter.
Otherwise next day delivery (which should be enough for clothes) is widely available. Many many retailers (asos, boohoo, JD Sports etc) will give you a years worth of next day delivery for £10.

Otherwise (in non-pandemic times) if you really want sameday a local store may be willing to put something in a taxi for you, but you willbe paying the going rate for that taxi/minicab to get to you.

Rant 1 is not worth commenting on.

Rant 2 - do you really, really need same day delivery on items of clothing and footwear?

Rant 3 - if you're 'stuck at home' how come you are missing deliveries that are then put in your bin?
Perhaps it might be worth planning your orders so that they are not delivered on bin collection day.

I think #3 is justified.  Some couriers do just dump items in bins and claim that's a "safe place" without bothering to knock.  In my last dispute - the item was allegedly left on the doorstep and claimed this was a "safe place" because it was a porch.

As for #1 and #2; as stated above; that can be done as long as the customers are willing to pay for that level of service.  Most won't be.
I need to think of something new here...
  • In the good old days, delivery was between 21 to 28 days.
Life was so much better back than.

Well, my comments were based on my personal experience.
None of the delivery companies have ever put anything in our bins.
Even throughout the last 11 months, they've knocked and waited for me to open the door.
    I've never missed a delivery.
Maybe the OP is not as 'stuck at home' as he/she alleges.

Maybe you're lucky Pollycat   I have once or twice had parcels dumped in the recycling or main bin and a card shoved through.  Not a huge risk here because we have to drag the bins out ourselves and I usually open them to put the last bit in; but if bins don't have to actively be put out on collection day, I could see a case where it goes in the bin and the bin is emptied before the homeowner sees the card (if there is a card).
I need to think of something new here...

I am lucky, no individual bins (communal bins) so no parcels with mucky stuff on them.  I did make an order from Morrisons on Amazon last week and received the food items two hours later.  Was a real surprise and free delivery as well.
But generally, deliveries are taking longer.., Amazon next day delivery is almost unknown now.  But I accept its just how it goes nowadays and am pleasantly surprised by the exception.

However 1 I can agree with (yes it is sods law but sod and I are very familiar).  Today I was upstairs chatting to my son, knock at the door, nearly broke my neck running downstairs, putting dogs in lounge behind lounge door so they couldn't make an escape attempt, and then raced to front door.  To find a tiny parcel on the ground waiting for me lolol. That I then had to kill myself bending over to pick up (I have arthritis). It seemed a bit ridiculous to have rushed down the stairs for this tiny parcel ha ha. And yes, had the bathroom experience too.

But the only response is to laugh about it!

To add to the OP rant, I can add receiving email or text messages saying the item has been delivered when it hasn't which I suspect is the courier just keeping the delivery in the van as it ends up being delivered 2 or 3 days later.
Order more than one item from Debenhams (whilst they're still here) and the items are delivered separately. Becoming friends with the Hermes courier as ordering two pairs of trousers means two deliveries. Ordered two jumpers; one arrived this morning, the other will arrive in the next few days. Not bothered in the slightest really but seems strange.

I must live a charmed life (one poster referred to me on another thread as a unicorn but I doubt I'm that rare) as I've never had these issues with couriers.
Just received my Hermes parcel which tracking info said would be delivered between 1pm and 3pm today.
I opened the door and the parcel was on my doorstep, the courier was halfway down the drive ready to take a photo.
And I've just had an email saying my parcel was delivered successfully.

Perhaps issues are location and/or courier dependent.
I've got a good Hermes one. No complaints with Royal Mail either.
