Automated Credit received. No idea by who or why??

Options
I see that I received an "automated credit" today of approx £40. The reference is just a long number and Transaction details show no further information. I cannot imagine why this was received, could it be a scam of some sort? I'm banking with Natwest.

Not a National Lottery Win as that shows as Camalot UK Lotteries when I've had a win and its gone into my bank account.
Time is a path from the past to the future and back again. The present is the crossroads of both.
  • A similar thread from 2009 turned out to be a "It's a payment from an affiliate network I used in the past for advertising campaigns."

Do you use any affiliate programs/apps that may have earned you some money?

The ones I use have always paid in Gift Cards, (eg. HuYu, SnapMyEats) so cannot confirm whether this is likely at all.

I also found that thread, but no there is absolutely nothing I can think of.
So long as it doesn't cause me an issue to receive random funds, I don't mind really.
  • Put it aside for now and see what happens over next few weeks.

You may even get a confirmatory email. That said, have you checked your Junk Mail??

Perhaps the payment has arrived ahead of a letter arriving.

Reference has updated today to BFA ACC SWITCH WYT.
Google shows this may be related to Barclays which makes sense as I've recently got a new bank with them. But it wasn't part of a switch incentive or anything, and why would they pay it into my old account now when I have a new one with them. So still no idea why but less concerned.
  • I'm with barclays, I've not had it but my mum and sister have both noticed the same thing today and they aren't with barclays, could it be government? Or to do with the cost of living.

Really doubt its the government, they don't chuck money about like that. Not to the general public anyway.

Have they cancelled a subscription recently? Maybe the national lottery?
