what version of w10 is it currently running on?
  • thanks for all the replies,I downloaded the Dell support pack and it checked my system and found no problems and my bios is the last one A09. Pity I may start looking for a new computer, I like this 17" HD screen and the large keyboard with number pad and since I fitted the SSD it is fast enough for my use. I will just keep everything backed up and keep an eye out for a suitable replacement, might even consider a desktop Thanks again to all who answered my request.
Likely not a problem with the BIOS. What is the exact message and how have you attempted to apply the upgrade? Via an external source or via Windows Update?
Not something about which you need to be overly concerned. Carry on.

On which version are you now? Click on Start.  Type About and choose the top selection About My Pc When pages opens, scroll to the bottom to see which version there.

  • Just so you are under no illusion barnaclebill, this is described as a critical update which fixes 56 security holes and vulnerabilities on versions Windows 7 upwards. Microsoft is urging users to update asap.

I don't think that barnaclebill mentioned a specific update what makes you think it fixes 56 holes?

I had presumed that the OP was referring to the latest Patch Tuesday update KB4601319 and I posted a link earlier in this thread related to this.
The reference to "56 holes" is from another YouTube video uploaded by a respected computer expert Britec09

  • Update, had one last try and the update downloaded and installed, it is an October 2020 update, think it has been stuck in the system, the Dell support check must have fixed something. The update is just about changing colours and switching tabs. If thats the logjam unblocked I will probably get a lot more now, thanks again
