Oh no, I hope it wasnt me! had a missed call at 16:18 from 02032396737 strange thing is my phone didn't ring.

Googled the number and it says "It looks like there aren't many great matches for your search"

Definitely wasn’t them. That number calls me & it rings once & hangs up … if you call it back, it seems that that is you consenting to marketing calls & Bob Smith will likely call you back from O2 (or whichever network you aren’t actually with), to tell you that according to their records, you’re entitled to a free upgrade to the latest iphone …

You lost nothing & dodged a bullet!

Thats a relief. Now Im glad the phones signal dropped at that time and it didnt ring.

Would have been nice to answer with "Make Me A Winner" though, would have been good practice.

And it makes sense if my phone didn't ring, I just tried calling it and my phone did not actually ring until the 2nd "ring ring", which shows why my phone didnt ring, if they hung up after 1 "ring ring".

My best guess is that it’s an automated dialler located outside the uk (to avoid uk marketing regulations), with a series of different CLI’s that it presents & a whole mobile prefix range that it’s programmed to trawl through … when it gets a number that rings, it disconnects & that number is a “live” number for a call centre data list somewhere, that will then call you to offer you stuff you neither want, need, or ever asked for …
like I said, calling them back likely gets you to the top of the hot list, as they know there’s a person at the other end, not just a useable mobile number potentially waiting assignment.

Hi, response from Bauer whether or not they make the winning call from a number withheld or not, main message make sure you have your phone free and by your side to take a call when comp closes at 4pm each day as it could be from a number withheld but there are no guarantees

‘This information can be found in the FAQ’s online:

I had a missed call, was it Make Me A Winner?

Unfortunately, we cannot disclose this information, however it is possible that the call will be from a withheld number. Before entering the competition, we would recommend ensuring that you will be able to play at the times announced on air’

  • this is why they can offer higher 'prizes' throughout the competition and make more money!

  • When Planet Rock phoned me a couple years ago, it was 5:15pm, so it can happen a bit later.
That was when it was 5pm for announcement at 6pm - it is now an hour earlier and they ring between 4pm and 4.15pm!

    ? That makes no sense.

If you miss a call from them you can’t call them back … if you could it would be no good, as you’d missed your opportunity - WHATEVER reason you may give them.
It also means you aren’t calling some premium rate number back to claim.

By calling from a withheld number, or by saying that it might be withheld, but in the event of an unforeseen issue etc., it might not be … how does that enable them to offer higher prizes??
If you miss the call then it means they haven't paid out any money that day.  That's how it makes them able to offer more money "jackpots" and more profit.
