Not having a go at you and I realise it's a difficult time for you but it would have helped if you had said that in the first place.
Can you expand on what you mean by dragging their heels, the delay may very well be in obtaining info from the hospital? Do you know where the holdup is?

they are took ages to get response from consultants in October. Now it’s being passed from chief medical and now assessors

So it sounds as if its proceeding, albeit slowly. Given the pressures on hospitals currently plus many insurance staff working from home it's perhaps not surprising it may be taking longer than usual.  Unfortunately I dont think there's not really much you can do to expedite matters other than check in for regular updates and try to politely chivvy up anyone who appears to be taking too much time to do or provide something.

When someome dies within the policy term, it is very straightforward on claims.  Payment can be inside a week or two.     Terminal illness claims take longer as they need to get the life expectancy verified and have a consultant put their name to it along with a written explanation.      As you can imagine, with Covid, this has been much slower than usual.
