Life Insurance

Life Assurance expires 18 months time. The Assured has a year to live - you have to put claim in 18 month before policy expires - any assistance in putting claim forward would be appreciated

A normal life assurance claim is made after the assured dies and does not need to be made before the policy expires.
I guess your policy includes terminal illness cover and you want to claim on that?

What are the terms for the terminal illness benefit on that policy?

  • I have a life insurance policy with LV. Something to bear in mind is if the policy is in its last 12 months  LV (it may be same for  other insurance companies) will not pay out. I only found this when I claimed on my policy  as I have terminal cancer !
  • They will pay-out as normal if death occurs before the end of the policy term.

They will not pay-out  early in the last 12 months of the policy if you are expected to be still alive when the policy terminates.

L&G for example do not allow terminal illness claims in the last 18-months of the policy, some don't allow terminal illness claims in the last 12-months and a couple allow terminal illness claims up until the last day the plan is in force.
On that basis, it will very much depend on who the insurer is.

Unfortunately as the policy has less than 18 months to run till April 2022 it is not possible to make a claim under the Diagnosis of Terminal Illness clause.  Of course if the life assured passes away before the policy expires the policy will still pay out as normal.
If the life assured survives until after the policy expires there will be no pay out.
  • The claim was put forward 2/7/2020 - they are dragging their heels on it
