Amazon Warehouse Deals - Used Like New - Packaging Will Be Damaged.

I purchased a Sapphire Pulse Radeon RX 580 8G GDDR5 Dual HDMI/DVI-D/Dual DP Graphics Card - Black condition Used – Like New from Amazon Warehouse Deals.

FYI an item described as “like new” sold on Amazon Warehouse is in perfect condition; however, due to the condition of the packaging, it does not meet Amazon.com standards for “new” products. Returned items with minor packaging defects are classified as “Used-Like New.”
The item which I purchased not only had damage to the packaging but was missing   its plastic covers for the HDMI/DP outputs, worse than that, it was defective in as much it would not power up when installed in my system. I reinstalled it on several occasions just to check that it was seated correctly, each time to no avail. The day following receipt I completed a return order, reporting it as defective as the reason. I returned it in its original packaging to Amazon within 48 hours, using their return label. At the same time, I ordered a brand new but different model Sapphire graphics card from Amazon.
All I had to do was await my full refund from Amazon. This was when what should have been a simple return turned into a nightmare. Amazon came back to me, insisting that I had returned an old and incorrect item, stating that they could not furnish me with a refund until such time as I returned the original item.

No matter how many emails I have sent them stating that I have sent back that which they have sent me, they will not refund me. Furthermore, they have now informed me that they are discarding the item which I returned, as per their email.

This is just a sample of the emails sent between myself and Amazon within the last few days. I paid for the initial purchase using my Santander bank debit card, on the 26/01/21, £187.42. As yet I have been unable to obtain a refund and they have kept hold of the defective item which I returned to them. Can anybody advise me as to my rights regarding this high-handed attitude of Amazons. I am a disabled pensioner living of my state pension and benefits. I cannot afford to lose a sum of £187.42.

Is the damaged item you received actually the correct model ordered "Used as New"?     Could it be that some dodgy character ordered one, then returned his tatty older model to Amazon for a refund and that's what they mistakenly sent you?
I need to think of something new here...
  • It was in the correct box, I didn't look too closely at the item. I was going to register it with Sapphire once it was up and running.
As you well know only AMD CPUs with the letter G at the end have integrated graphics, such as the AMD Ryzen 3 3200G CPU which has Radeon Vega 8 graphics. I returned the card without making a note of it's serial number. Amazon have it and have kept it.

why are you suddenly going on about cpu's, when you say it would not power up i take it you got not display at all? did you have the drivers installed, did you get rid of the old drivers using ddu?
Is your power supply greater than 500W which is what the card needs, did you plug an 8 pin pcie power connector into it?

not much help i know, hope you get it sorted.

I have recieved the wrong item twice from amazon warehouse.

It seem while they closely scrutinise warehouse returns they do not the normal returns that end up there. Of course you did not help yourself by not noticing you very likely had the wrong item.

(And To be fair my scrutinise comment is obviously wrong, I would just say some returns operatives pay more attention to a return than others regarless of where it was ordered).

Doubt there is much you can do. You can chargeback if you accept that should it be successful you or anyone you live with can never have an amazon account again. (unless you move, get a new bank account /credit card (payment things) and have a name never accociated with amazon that was before (and maybe a new dob)).

The strangest thing about this is their refusal to return 'your' card / the card they claim you sent back.
Given how suspicious this looks on their part, I'd be taking small claims court action against them.

Amazon have a history of that

As who well knows? I didn't know that, and I wouldn't expect half the forum to either. And that's a CPU, not a graphics card...
    Confused
  • Hello all,
I have been using Amazon for years but have never had this issue until now. I also received a similar email today when returning a £700 laptop. Amazon claim that a completely different item was returned and thus are refusing to refund.  It was returned via Hermes!
Seeing that Christopher also experienced such as similar issue, I'm thinking this is going to become a growing complaint on forums, which is not great.
Can the experts please recommend what course of action I could/should take. I have emailed them with photos of the item I returned, but do not have much hope in their CS.
    Regards

The problem is that some people will think they have found a way to scam the system (workers, customers, delivery men) and I am sure companies see a lot of this.  Sadly that means honest people also get caught up in it.

  • Sorry mattyprice4004,
Yes, AMD Ryzen CPUs with the letter G at the end i.e. AMD Ryzen 3 3200G CPU as I quoted earlier have integrated graphics, in the main Vega 8.  These are for budget systems and not for gaming. If you were interested in a gaming system,. then you'd a separate graphics card plus (GPU) plus a CPU such as an AMD Ryzen 7 3700X.
