EE Broadband price increase.

Hi. I've recently received an email from EE Broadband of a price increase in March of 0.6% ( in line with consumer price index ) but an additional 3.9% on top of that.
Am I entitled to leave EE without penalties mid-contract due to this price increase?
While internet Companies have seen a boom in consumer usage since Covid lockdown, my industry ( aviation sector ) has been decimated & I think it's the wrong time to start increasing prices and as a matter of principle I will leave them after 20+ years ( previously with Orange ) if I can terminate my contract without penalty.
Many thanks ......

No as you already agreed to this increase upon taking out your contract .That makes it not a mid contract increase under Ofcom rules .See your sign up email and EE adverts .the monthly price will increase every year from March 2021. These increases are based on the Consumer Price Index rate of inflation which is published in January each year plus 3.9%.

Thanks @JJ_Egan
That explains why they mentioned a price increase when I renewed my contract. I thought it was a bit odd at the time but I understand the reason why now.1 -
You do realise that the broadband sector has pretty much been at saturation for 5+ years now and the providers gain no benefit from people using their home broadband more? Most home broadband providers have seen their costs rise, whilst many have also waived data caps and limits for those few people who had caps and were home schooling. They are raising their prices in line with the contract which people signed up to, there is nothing wrong or immoral about that.flyinggizmo said:While internet Companies have seen a boom in consumer usage since Covid lockdown, my industry ( aviation sector ) has been decimated & I think it's the wrong time to start increasing prices and as a matter of principle I will leave them after 20+ years ( previously with Orange ) if I can terminate my contract without penalty.1 -
I'm disapointed as I signed up years ago, before they wrote the RPI increase into the T&C's.
Yet they emailed me and telling me its going up by the same amount.0 -
I didn't get an email, but i got a letter (well two identical letters - guess they can afford to be extravagant now), and it states that you can cancel at no cost if you want to leave.AndyPK said:I'm disapointed as I signed up years ago, before they wrote the RPI increase into the T&C's.

They can still put the price up if it's not in the terms, they just can force you to stay.
It is a total rip off though, going the way of car insurance where you have to keep changing supplier every year.0 -
If you have been with them for 20 years you should be able to leave without any cost, unless you have signed a new contract recently.flyinggizmo said:Hi. Anybody know where 3.9% ON TOP of RPI comes from. Just spoken to a Broadband agent who confirms that they haven't received a 3.9% pay rise !! Profiteering then ?0
