BT Bill Errors

Hi
I have just found out that BT have not been billing me for broadband since I moved into a new flat 2 years ago !.  I assumed the account was fine as I have dd set up to bt everymonth wich has been paid, turns out this was just for tv and bt sport.  I have just never checked the actual bills until this month when i decided to cancel bt sport.  When i rang to cancel the customer service rep could not get into my account, and he said the broaband account was not set up right.  My question is can they now bill me for the last 2 years broadband charges?..  I have also been charged an activation fee on this months bill ? Not sure why though?

Why has it taken you two years to notice?
And you've used the service (presumably), so seems only fair you pay for it, yes?
  • I thought I was paying it.  The dd left my account every month, and I had no issues with service.  The one time I did and called them, they checked the account and never said there was an issue.
I just never checked the actual bill until.

And this is why you should be checking bills themselves and not just that the payment has gone out.

But anyway yes, they could in theory bill you back the whole two years.  Whether they will or not is obviously up to them.  It depends on who was more at fault in the first place.  The balance of blame as it were works both ways - neither BT nor yourself noticed you weren't paying for broadband for two years so I would probably say you're both at fault, but ultimately it is your responsibility to be checking your bills and had you done so in the first place the situation wouldn't have occurred, and as I said above you have used the service so...

The activation fee would probably suggest you are now going to be billed for broadband going forward.  You may want to check if a new contract has been started.
