In terms of where to buy from, I hate curry's but they do do good deals and their delivery guys have been great, carrying stuff to the right room even though the website says they'll only do so if you get installation through them. If you can't install yourself get a local guy to install or ask around - you might have a friend who knows how to do it. As for old appliances, don't pay to dispose but leave on the street and scrap collectors will pick up.
Currys aren't an option, they've had he benefit of the doubt from me more than once and shame on me fir being messed around with twice.

Leaving on the street is flytipping, the area near where I live is plagued with people who leave appliances on the street - all of which have to be reported to the council to be removed.

Please be responsible and have your old appliances taken away - even if that attracts a fee.

  • I usually stick stuff on Freecycle but know from previous experience that anything with metal parts will be removed pretty quickly by local scrap metal merchants doing the rounds.

I think it depends on where you live.  Leaving fridges and/or mattresses outside is never a good idea because no one can get rid of them.

Where I am, you can put something out and it will be gone within hours, if that.    Where my daughter goes to school in inner Birmingham, it's disgusting, fly tipping hell.  Fridges and mattresses everywhere. And the rest.  😡

    Seconded.

While we were doing our house up, anything we were getting rid of that contained metal was left at the end of the drive - Radiators, smashed up cast iron bath, old knackered range cooker, cast iron soil pipe, knackered old chicken wire to name but a few. All of it was gone by the next day, sometimes within a couple of hours.

Although it was left on the drive and not in the street. If nobody had wanted it, I would have arranged for proper disposal but if someone can make use of it then fair play to them.

When we bought our appliances I shopped all over at whoever was doing the best price. (the missus wanted NEFF, so I had to save some money somewhere!)

I got the ovens from Curry's (had them retrospectively price match one too as they dropped their own price by £80 after I'd ordered). Hob from the Co-Op,  Wine cooler from Appliance House and the extractor from a place called "Cookers and Ovens".

All arrived on time and in perfect condition.

  • I'm now looking at the appliances in detail.

I'd like to know which products / suppliers you WOULDN'T touch with a bargepole, or known brand drawbacks. Eg for me Beko and fridges / WMs are synonymous with housefires.

you need to bear in mind if it's integrated, and if it's been integrated properly.
if it hasn't got the required air vents at least then it may well be a fire risk

I don’t know about “wouldn’t” buy, but I have Siemens oven, microwave, induction hob, dish washer and washing machine and a Bosch fridge freezer and couldn’t recommend them highly enough. Washing machine is so quiet I thought it wasn’t working when I first switched it on!

I had a Beko oven, microwave and washing machine prior to this and had no issues with either, seemed fairly well built and were user friendly.

CDA appliances - Will never buy another one. Cheap, nasty things.
Got a Beko washing machine - Fairly quiet, and haven't had a problem with it.
Cook & Lewis induction hob - Only got it because it was half price from B&Q, but well worth the £90 I spent.
Bosch fridge, I grabbed from a front garden when a neighbour was having a new kitchen. Don't know how old it is, but it is still going strong.
