Be very careful purchasing from the NewEgg UK store. They are essentially Grey imports

Despite having a UK store where we pay UK VAT all goods purchased from NewEgg are essentially grey imports with no warranty.

You should also be aware the return period starts from the invoice date which means you do not get 30 days to check the product is in full working order.

I received my faulty RAM on 5th of January and have tried to initiate a return (RMA) on the 5th of February to essentially be told I do not have a warranty or a right to return the goods.

I suggest any international customers think very carefully before giving NewEgg your custom.

I have requested a call back from management and will report back any further developments.

Where is this UK store ??
I fail to find one  .
web page of a USA company in various languages yes .
Buying from a  co.uk  web page is not buying from a UK store nor under UK consumer laws .
  • It's all in the returns policy on their website about the 30 days from invoice and no warranty on overseas orders so you might find it difficult to argue - it has always put me off using them.

I've often ended up at their website as the headline prices are cheaper but then when you add shipping from the US it usually matches UK prices anyway - can't imagine shipping on RAM still made it cheaper than buying from UK?

What is the fault with the RAM? - just wondering because you had it for 30 days, did it work ok then fail? Is it just one chip or two and have both failed etc? Just wondering if we can help you out from a different angle, maybe compatibility, firmware updates needed to accept the RAM etc, exact fault and full spec of RAM and machine would be useful?

NewEgg doesn't have a UK store.  It is an American company, it has always been an American company.  So they will all be imports, unless there's a warehouse over here somewhere that they own.
Yes the website makes references to 14 day cooling off and statutory law, but that doesn't make it a UK company.

My system other than the ram is overclocked and is relatively new. I'd been getting the odd crash and I just assumed it was the CPU as the RAM was running at XMP.
It was only last night when I couldn't play more than 10 mins of a game without a crash I put everything back to stock and it still happened.
I then downloaded OCCT and did a memory test which it failed horrifically.

To be honest I probably should have read more about the returns but because the cost included vat and shipping I assumed it would work similar to Amazon.
I logged and RMA with Gskill to see where that gets me direct with the manufacturer.
I'm waiting on a call back from new egg because in all honesty the business model internationally speaking is not fit for purpose.

They have a store with UK prices and make it very easy to purchase from there unlike say best buy who are very clearly only targeting US customers.

Don't make a conscious effort to have a UK facing store then offer zero support those customers.

The point of the post was to highlight the issue.

They had stock of a particular specification of RAM I was after the purchase was not based on price.
Oh I should also add the ram is on the QVL list for my motherboard and should be 100% compatible.

Just because it has UK prices doesn't make it a UK store, the returns policy refers to US & international. It even has a section on "Calif. Transparency in Supply Chains Act" this is on the "UK" site

Thanks, makes a lot more sense now. Given you are an overclocker I'm safe to assume you bought at least 2x RAM chips to run in dual channel mode, the chances of both being faulty is really remote. If both are failing I'm inclined to say it is a configuration issue rather than faulty RAM. You've posted on the techie forum rather than consumer rights and I've assumed you are not getting a refund / replacement so I've taken this as an opportunity to try to help in a technical way. I've been overclocking PC's since the 90's.

    • Did previous RAM chips work ok or is this the only chips ever used in the system?
    • Can you pin it down to one of the two chips? Run the tests with one of the other in the system to see if you can?
    • If it happens with both, I'm really inclined statistically to say it is a config issue rather than faulty RAM
EDIT: Memtest x86 is an excellent tool to help pin things down.
