Royal Mail Redirection

Any advice please? Looks like I will be moving house in the next 2 weeks, nothing definite yet though. Have been trying to set up redirection of mail with Royal Mail, but when I get to the payment section it just says Failed, Error, etc. Anyone else having problems with them? Tried ringing but none of the options covered what I needed.
Thanks
Sue
PS Have tried 3 different payment cards.

The payment authentication system is probably down, don't panic, try later. You only need to give 5 days notice to RM so if you're buying someone else's property I would hold off until you have got a definite date as I don't think you can't cancel once it's processed and you don't want your post going to someone else's house1

I set mine up just after 11am today.
Make sure you are selecting the correct billing address for your card. It only lets you choose between the house you are moving from and the house you are moving to, I presume to stop you from setting up redirections for random people.

I had the same issue a couple of months ago. Tried 7 times and it wouldn't accept the payment. I resigned myself to having to download the form and go into a post office. Tried one last time in sheer desperation and it finally accepted it with exactly the same details I'd been entering all along. I'd say keep trying and hopefully it will go through.1

PS Have tried 3 different payment cards.I did mine last week no problems.Try a different browser.Or maybe it was having a funny 5 minutes, barclays woudlnt let me log on for a while a day or two ago saying i was getting the numbers wrong. I wasnt. Left it a hour, it was all better. Is it not a little dangerous setting up redirection before you've exchanged? Or is your moving situation different?1 -
Go to the post office. They will have paper forms which you can fill in there and then. Pay over the counter.1

Haven’t had any payment issues. Must say, RM have been amazingly responsive. I’ve had to set up
1) Redirection from old home to temp accomm (enough gap between exchange & completion)
2) Cancellation of above with less than 5 days notice
3) New redirection from old home to new home. Again, less than 5 days notice. All actioned & acknowledged & seems to be working!1 -
Thanks for the reminder, I've got to do this and was wondering how much notice they need. I did th redirection last May when I moved into this rental, and did inform Barclays Bank of my new address, but forgot about my Barclaycard as I'm paying it off. I was surprised my new card went to my old address, for some reason, and was missed by the redirection service. Luckily I'm only up the road from my old house and my lovely post lady delivered it to me here.£216 saved 24 October 20141

I still get 1-2 pieces of post a week for the previous owners and they've had a redirection set up since the 1st of Dec. Last week the post woman tried to deliver a small package for them. When I told her the addressee has a redirection in place she took it back and wrote "redirection" in big letters across it. The next day someone else tried to deliver the same package to me.youth_leader said:Thanks for the reminder, I've got to do this and was wondering how much notice they need. Not great MaryNB, it cost me £96. I might leave a big SAE here for the new tenant, just in case.£216 saved 24 October 20143

They just need to pop them back in the post box. I always write "redirection in place" on the letters. No new stamps required. Although best to leave a note for the new tenant asking them to do this. I always returned letters to sender in my last house share (mainly because so many were from debt collectors for the woman I replaced on the lease) but I discovered a drawer full of letters that other housemates hasn't bothered to return.
A friend of mine missed a parking fine because she forgot to update her address, had no redirection in place, and none of the remaining tenants in her formal rental let her know she had post. Ended up with a CCJ. She was furious with them but entirely her own fault really.2
