HELP - New supplier - Triple Power Use

Hello,
Wonder if anyone could shed some light on this quandary please!
I recently switched from SSE to British Gas, the changeover happened last Friday, I posted a few days ago about how my smart meter showed triple the cost in cash terms on the same day I changed over - I thought maybe the smart meter was playing up
As a result, I took down my 24hr usage from the actual meter at the distribution board, the figures for electricity are, 21318 on Wednesday, and at the same time on Thursday it was 21358. This means I've used 40 Kwh in 24 hrs! I can understand this if I was a small business or large house, but I live alone, in small flat, some LED lights, a TV and fridge freezer.
My smart meter was only showing about £1.80 a day with my previous supplier, I haven't changed my habits, My electricity consumption for all of 2020 with previous supplier was 1346 kwh or 3.68 kwh per day average
The new supplier is cheaper on paper so don't understand the issue; I called British Gas, they said they'll be in touch to organise and engineer to visit within 2 weeks.
Any ideas what the problem might be?
Many thanks
Thomas

Look again at your meter is there a decimal point ie 2131(decimal) 8 on Wednesday, and at the same time on Thursday it was 2135 (decimal) 8.
Ignore the IHD and just read the SMART meter itself
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -
Hi,are you sure there's not a decimal point in meter reading, meaning 4 units instead of 40?1

I have an electric shower and dishwasher, its an old property with wood burner for heating. The point is I've not changed my electricity usage, It went from £1.80 a day, to over £6 on the same day I change supplier. To clarify, every day before change of supplier and during this winter £1.80 a day........the day I mover to British Gas over £6 every day, every day electric only.

The meter is dated 2016 - were you at that property then ? (There may be a sticker or card giving an actual date) It would have read 00000 - so about 4,500 units/year.
A bit of detective work on your behalf now. Can you back track on older bills and see if they have been based on ACTUAL readings or ESTIMATES. Just wondering if there have been lots of estimates leading you to think you were a low user and now you have an actual reading.
Keep reading that meter every day for a while.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0
