Using the usage calculator on the providers website usage came out at 44m3 a year for metered water + sewerage, and they advised me direct on the best tariff which will work out at £20 monthly.
For a one bed flat, no bath.

However I currently live in a 3 bed semi, with bath, using that calculator comes out at 82m3 when in actual fact we (two) use no more than 55-60m3 a year.
This is from years worth of bills with meter readings so I know it's correct.
We have always been frugal with using everything.

Would I be safe to assume the calculator has over estimated use for the flat as well and perhaps drop my budget to £15pm? I will be living alone.

If there are others living in a one bed flat, no bath, I'd love to hear how many m3 you use.

TBH the number of rooms in a building has no real bearing on the amount of water used. A ten roomed house with only one person could easily use a lot less than a one bedroom flat with two or three people living in it.

The general average is around 55cum per person, so most calculators will just multiply 55 by the number of people. However if you do it on a room basis then a calculator has to try and guess how many people might be living there., it could be one, two or even six or eight so any calculator is only going to give you a rough idea of your consumption. What you use and what someone else uses in a similar house may be completely different so making comparisons isn't really ever so useful

There are two of us in a three bedroom bungalow and use around 70cu.m a year. We are at home all day, have flow restrictors on our shower and taps (we don't have a bath) but have an automatic watering system and we do wash the cars and caravan occasionally. We'd probably use a lot less if we didn't wash the cars or water the garden or a lot more if we each had a nice deep bath full every night.

Which company supplies you makes a big difference to your charges.
Some have high standing charges for water and sewerage and a lowish charge per M3; others vice versa

I definitely agree, most of the bill isn't for actual usage but standing charges.
I'm with Anglian Water if that helps.

We us around 70-75cu.m a year and that costs us around £330-£350 a year metered (Anglian Water). Just the standing charges on RV billing would cost us £544 plus whatever the rate in the £ is, so we are saving well over £220 by being on a meter

I only use 10 cubic meters per year, I get a wash every day rather than a shower. I only run a tap slowly to get the hot water as it uses less water but takes the same time as running the tap fast.
My first year with a meter they estimated a £200 bill but I got over £85 refunded when the next bill was produced. Most of the bill is standing charges.
I reckon when every home is on a meter the charges will increase substantially as those that paid more on the rateable value will, in many cases be paying less than they did on the rateable value.
Someone please tell me what money is
