Ofcom would better serve consumers by sorting out the mess that is landline number porting instead of wasting its efforts - and ultimately increasing costs for consumers - on trying to save the lazy from potentially having to make an extra telephone call when switching ISPs.0

I'm assuming number porting will become easier after PSTN switches to VoIP in 2025Ex forum ambassador

So every provider will need a way of communicating with every other provider, to extract contract information on behalf of the customer. What if the customer then disputes the information, is that query passed through the new provider? Seems like a sledgehammer approach0

Switching needs to be easier. I posted this on another thread;
I wanted to cancel my Virgin Broadband so tried ringing the 0345 number 3 times at different times of day. A message said 'Too busy call back later' and then I was cut off immediately. I then tried the 0800 number and surprisingly wasn't cut off and was put on hold. After over an hour of being passed around and waiting at a cost of over £20 I managed to cancel. If the reason was caused by staff shortages due to current situation with covid then the 0345 number should be manned not the 0800 one. These are underhand tactics by Virgin Media to make it so difficult (or expensive) to cancel that people eventually give up. I would have possibly gone back to Virgin in the future but now I wouldn't consider them. I expect better from a company of this size.0 -
VM are a stand-alone company not part of the Open Reach network , so this thread details as per post one will not apply .

The way I read it, the "new" process would apply to copper to fibre switches as well ??Browntoa said:Consultation until 31st march 2021 .
