I'm rooting for the OP! I think these buyers may drop out though. Hope not.

But oh how times have changed. I remember the days when my ex and I were first time buyers - we were scared to death that we'd lose the house. Didn't realise that our vendors were much better of with us as we had no chain behind us - yes, we were as green as grass. We were bowing and curtseying all over the place saying things like oh yes please sir and oh yes, thank you ma'am that'd be lovely - and were willing to pay extra if necessary (it wasn't, the vendors were lovely) just so we could have our dream home! What idiots. I can't believe that first time buyers these days are so demanding!
I think in this case the FTB has a parent in the background goading them on.
My mother's the same in a way. She's a total haggler, kept telling me to ask for more off my house. I am the exact opposite, I hate haggling in any situation. I was nervous I wouldn't get the house (well, except I held firm on refusing to go above asking because this was earlier in the pandemic when things were even more uncertain).

I'm cheering for the FTBs.
    I thought you would be!
Honestly, I have no idea whether you are the better cause to support, or the FTBs. But, everyone else seems to be cheering for you, so I thought I'd cheer for the underdogs.   We are British, after all. :)

Of course, if your buyers are just reducing their offer 'because they can', that's not a very nice thing to do. But, maybe they are having trouble getting the money together? Maybe, there's somewhere else come on the market that is far better value than your place, and it's making yours look expensive?

Anyway, hopefully you'll know in the morning whether they are bluffing.

Good job and couldn't give a flying s***t who you support then isn't it 🙃 I bet you're a nightmare when buying or selling.

I had a little laugh to myself at these replies! We've heard back and......they have agreed our terms and will be signing on the dotted line ASAP. I've given them until Wednesday to exchange or retracting my offer, which they have assured me will be done!

Thank you to the majority of you for your advice and help! I actually used a lot of your tips while negotiating, so thank you again.

I also just wanted to say a lot of you have been referring to me as 'he' but I'm actually a she 😝 thanks again! x
    Well done 👏👏
Hope it all goes well now 👍

    Good for you
  • Bravo! Well done for standing your ground. When I was a FTB 4 years ago I knew that there would be things I would have to deal with, just like now we are selling (making a little profit) the buyer has had the cheek to ask me to pay half for a fire escape window even though the window is fine and met regulations at the time.

I have to confess, I've lost the plot. Are they still getting £500 off for the CU?
If so, booh. Leave some rotting fish under the floorboards as a welcome present before you depart. It smells similar to rotting wiring.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
