Indesit washing machine /Argos issue help

Anyone remember when the advice was to run a machine on an EMPTY boil cycle now and then, to clean/sanitise it?
It's the first time I've ever heard of a machine refusing to empty because there's not enough washing in it. If that's Indesit's idea of a "smart" machine design ... mind boggled. I suspect the engineer was just making up excuses to get out of there.
An empty drum is trivial to balance. It's pretty much is a balanced as it can get. One massive towel, sodden with water may never end up in a happy, distributed place. A larger number of smaller items stands a better chance of distributing around the drum so as not to set off the wobble-detector.

It’s a very odd one we have actually had 2 engineers out and without even looking at the machine both declared it was because it was unbalanced. My in-laws wash twice a week max and save all their clothes up.. they are using a normal amount of clothing that works fine in my 9kg one (different brand) the engineer said it’s due to their load balancing systems.
In my mind it’s like buying a 7seater car but it will only drive if there is 7people in there and not 2 🤷♀️0 -
That's what I was thinking. I boil wash mine empty after I descale it.mikb said:Anyone remember when the advice was to run a machine on an EMPTY boil cycle now and then, to clean/sanitise it?

have you tried 10 k of washing in it to see if the fault still occurs- which it should if the machine itself is out of balance`?

From that it's hard to tell which end of the "idiot/savant" scale they operate.crosfields said:2 engineers out and without even looking at the machine both declared it was because it was unbalanced
Either they are spectacularly good engineers, with such a wealth of experience they can diagnose a fault sight unseen... or they have no idea what they are doing.
Descale? I've seen the Calgon adverts and the mysterious foul-smelling grey goo that badly dubbed "engineers" have to stick their hand in and sniff. And the 2" layer of calcium that literally destroys the machine from inside. It's got to be a marketing hoax to get you to buy products you don't need to solve a problem you didn't have.Spank saidThat's what I was thinking. I boil wash mine empty after I descale it.
I don't descale mine. Last washing machine made it 20 years without it, and looked and smelled nothing like the examples in those ads. -- and it is a hard water area.

I use the descaled water after it's gone through the coffee machine, then it goes into the kettle for 10 minutes, so it's not costing me anything. If it's a hoax why did I fork out £70 (I think) to have my heating element donkey's years ago?0

One reason for a machine to be unbalanced is that its not level hence the reason the feet are adjustable.

Hopefully the two engineers who have visited the OP would have noticed if it wasn't level!
