Getting into bed these nights is not a pleasant experience, well not for us.
Just wondering if anyone has any advice on warmer bed sheets and what type and where to buy them.
I dread getting into bed because the cotton sheets we have are so cold. It does take quite a while to get somewhat near warm but, it is that initial shock to the system I cannot get used to. No matter how long the heating is on it's freezing in that bed. Help!!
Hot water bottle, or just lie on top of the bed for 5-10 mins before actually getting in.

Another vote for an electric blanket.  Some of our bedrooms have no heating at all so it's firstly 'bracing' getting undressed and then luxurious to get into a lovely warm bed.  Saves a small fortune on heating bills as well.  Very 'green'!

    Cat? Or multiple cats?
A less furry solution might be to close the curtains to your bedroom when its still light at this time of year to reduce heat escape? Our bedroom curtains are closed more then they are open. Keeps warm in in winter and heat out in summer.

I like to be really warm in bed because the cold makes my joints hurt nowadays so I have a mattress topper (feather and down 4")with an electric heated mattress protector and then a thick brushed cotton sheet underneath me and then two duvets a fleece throw and a heated fleece throw over me as well as two hot water bottles, fleecy pyjamas and thinsulate gloves for my sore hands.
I turn both heated layers on when I go and fetch the hotties to fill them about half an hour before getting into bed and it is lovely and warm when I get in, the next best sensation to getting into a hot bath.
Thanks to all this I'm always warm enough whatever the weather and several of my friends have said they have heated underblankets of one sort or another and love them.
I got mine from lakeland and argos sell them too so you can avoid am*z*n if you want to.

  • Well, thank you for all those replies. The house is lovely and warm, we've even left the duvet rolled back hoping to warm up the bed but, not much luck there. It seems the duvet cover we have plus the cotton bottom sheet need to be replaced by something much warmer sooner than later.
It isn't a pleasant experience getting into a cold bed, I do have Osteoarthritis (hip and knee) and this cold isn't doing me any good.

I do not turn the radiator on in the bedroom, but I do have an electric blanket.
I can get cramp getting into a cold bed, I would pay £100 for an electric blanket if I needed to.
You can get one for around £30 from the supermarket. Mine can be set to be left on for 12 hours of 45 minutes, its great.
  • I use "luxury" blankets from Aldi and they are so cosy, warm and comforting its a struggle to leave bed in the mornings. Yes they are synthetic but I've never had a static problem. When I've bought them they have been around £10 mark so much cheaper than an electric blanket.

My parents had a 'Glow baby' basically a cage with a 40w light bulb in it which they put in their bed for an hour before going to bed, worked a treat and their grandchildren loved using it as well.
