Council Tax

  • Putting aside the tinfoil hat for a moment, yes your relatives should inform the council about the change of ownership as there are benefits/reductions applied to CT.  They will probably find they get the same reductions if it's based on income anyway.

The bigger issue is if the mother ends up in a care home, or needs home care, paid for by social services in the near future.  Deprivation of assets is enthusiastically pursued by councils who are struggling with funding.

Indeed, and not even in the "near future"

Responding to false and misleading posts is not bullying.

Can't wait to repost all these comments once it's all revealed. Then you can apologise.
It is ironic that you wanted people to remember your comments but now that they've been proven to be completely untrue you get upset when people repost them!
What is really disgusting is telling others they should apologise but refusing to do so yourself when proven to be wrong.

Thank you for your kind words.

Especially the "..like creeps" rather than " ....you creeps", good distinction, a wise thought.

Perhaps if you did something proving you really are sorry, kinda penance?

Any ideas anyone, please.  £25 to an agreed housing charity for the best suggestion. (Proof of payment available on request)

    Best wishes to all.

Talk about a grudging insincere apology!
If you repeatedly post false claims and misleadig facts you can expect to be 'followed', not in a creepy way, but in the interests of highlighting to other posters who might not know the history...

CT is in the occupier's name(s).
The local authority don't care about the ownership.

Hi my friend asked me a question earlier and I wasn't sure of the answer so thought I'd ask on here. She lives with her Mum who around a year ago signed over the property into her name. The council tax is still in her mothers name. She wants to know if she needed to let the council know of the change of property ownership for the council tax or can they still be under her Mum's name?

    Thanks
If the mother is no longer the tenant or owner then the council need to know for their records for any void periods where the owner is liable.

If the daughter is resident then the council tax charge needs to be in her name, from the earliest point she was both owner/tenant AND resident in the property. Assuming the daughter is resident then the mother will have all of the Council Tax Reduction removed as it can only be claimed by the liable party.
I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.
