Chromebook newbie question

I've been to trying all manner of permutations but still I'm required to sign in.
Would someone  give an "idiots guide" to this please ?. An A.B.C.D. route would be fine, if there is one.

To stop needing the password after sleep mode:

1. At the bottom right, select the time.
2. Select Settings .
3. Go to the “People” section.
4. Go to “Screen lock” and log in with your credentials if it prompts you to.
5. Toggle the option “Show lock screen when waking from sleep” to OFF.
6. Exit the page.

Above only works in sleep mode. If you shutdown it will always need the password.

I highly recommend NOT doing the above because if your laptop is stolen, the thief has access to your account without a password.

I do recommend setting a PIN code instead for convenience:

1. At the bottom right, select the time.
2. Select Settings .
3. In the 'People' section, select Screen lock.
4. Enter your password and then select Confirm.
5. Select PIN or password  Set up PIN.
6. Enter a PIN of six digits or more and then select Continue.
7. Re-enter your PIN and then select Confirm.

tallmansix, wow, thanks for your patience with this "over 80 yr old". I'm going to print this off then take my time following your procedure. Can't wait to see the outcome.
