Hi,

I have a complaint with HSBC regarding my credit card and am desperately trying to speak to someone who I can have a detailed conversation with. I am fine with Indian call centres when they have well trained staff, but I have spoken to two terribly unprofessional call handlers about this so far, the most recent of which I was waiting for half an hour to speak to, only for him to sound like he'd just been picked up off the street and his only training was being told to say 'terms and conditions' and waffle on about nothing until the caller hangs up in frustration. Honestly, if the leadership team of HSBC UK were to have call monitored that call they would have been mortified at the calibre of people representing them!

I had a search on the forum, and there have been numbers to reach UK based people provided in the past, but not more recently than 2012, and I have tried them with no success. I am an Advance customer if that makes a difference.

Thanks

Do like I do and ring the HSBC Welsh Language line on 03457 030 304 or 03456 082 400. Start the conversation with Good Morning in Welsh (bore da) then switch to English.
I spoke with a lovely lady in Cardiff last time I telephoned who was most helpful.
I have yet to find an Indian call centre where staff can speak Welsh, so most Welsh Language line are staffed by Welsh speakers who can also speak excellent English (and are UK based).
Best life hack ever! I salute you, genius!

As Thrugelmir suggests, its much easier to put your complaint in writing.

HSBC`s contact page provides numerous ways to submit your complaint, and it goes to UK customer services to deal with.

A UK call centre vs an An Indian call centre is irrelevant. You want trained staff, or do you want staff of a certain nationality only?

nationality is irrelevant.  But fact is Indian call centres may speak good english, are very polite and sympathetic but most times are totally incapable of dealing with any problems, partly because they may speak english well but dont understand the subtleties and inflections. I had a problem regarding fraud which i reported to HSBC, who referred it to their fraud dept which was in this case an indian call centre. Calls went back and forth for months as they just couldnt get it. In the end I wrote to HSBC and had a call back and an hour later it was all resolved.

I know, when I ring an American Call Centre, it's a nightmare. Don't get me started on UK call centres either!
They just do not get it.

Thanks for the tip. I didn't get any joy with my complaint (will need to try the ombudsman), but it was much less frustrating having the conversation with a competent complaint handler.
  • I spent about three years trying to call HSBC to get them to de-register payM. Never managed it. I always got routed to a forgien call centre and they didn't understand what I wanted.

With HSBC myself. For anything that I cannot do online I just send them a letter.
