Need a new bank account

£90 appeared in my daughter's bank account and then her bank suspended her account pending investigations after someone made an accusation against her re fraud. She denied it and had no idea who the person was and no idea how they had even obtained her bank details to pay any money in. However, after several weeks, the bank closed her account and she now has a fraud marker on her record. They won't give her any more informtation. She has tried to open basic accounts elsewhere but they seem to accept her and then close them down. Her wages can only be paid into a bank account in her name and she can't get a bank account.

Is there anywhere at all that can offer her a bank account - it really doesn't matter how basic as long as she can get to her wages.

Complain to the bank first of all to see if you can get the CIFAS removed but you might want to have an honest conversation with her as there is no way she would just get money paid into her account - people don't just send cash to random accounts. Did she tell the bank immediately that she has no knowledge of this money? Did she take it and spend it?

In all honesty, I'm just repeating what she told me. I'm embarrassed to say I'm not convinced by her story. However, the situation is what it is and she no longer has a bank account. She does need to be able to access her wages so has to find a way to obtain some sort of bank account. Is there any organistion who can provide a simple bank account? I understand that  neither online banking or debit cards would be available. She just needs somewhere her wages can be paid into

I have a cifas fraud marker and was able to get an account with think money and Monzo although my markers were 4 years old at the time but I don’t think that effects it, it’s different to a 6 years default marker it will prevent you getting most credit agreementS until the 6 years has passed

She might be able to open a basic account with a credit union? It not, speak to citizens advice.

Think Momey I believe, is a packaged account that attracts a monthly fee.

Monzo maybe an option but even then?  The CIFAS marker really needs to be addressed, if possible as this will have an effect on her for quite some years to come!

Yes think money charged me a fee of £10 at the time per month however it was a relief and worth the fee to have somewhere to put my wages. You’ve got 2 stressful issues one is where the wages can go and the other is trying to get it removed. So resolve the one stress by opening think money and then deal with the other, however having been through it myself it is unlikely the marker will be removed it’s just a lesson to do things by the book and learn from it, I did and in some ways it can make you a better person. Just let the time pass and don’t allow anymore errors of judgement.

What about Revolut or TransferWise?
My friend arrived to the UK in 2020 and is unable to book an appointment to get her National insurance number. Yet she was able to open an account with Revolut. It's not a bank so it might be worth trying. TransferWise also works like a normal bank account, so you might try that one as well.

Not sure if it possible, but can in short term get her wages paid into your account??
