My father in law (now 82) reluctantly invited me to meet his IFA a few years back as he was getting badgered to sort out Inheritance tax. The guy who never ever put his hand in his pocket, has a house full of second hand furniture, the guy who takes £15 holidays in Devon using Sun vouchers was sat on an incredible sum thanks to Investing over the years. He's grossing about £30k a year on Investments alone, not including his pensions.

Will he change his tune, no chance. He's still down at Tesco at 4pm on a Sunday to get the offers. We've encouraged him to get new central heating (it was on its last legs), a new drive, replace his car (he went for the cheapest Skoda) and stay in Devons finest hotels , world cruise (before the pandemic) - no chance. He's still quibbling over his Devon caravan credit money owed from last year.

That said he will argue that he has led a happy and fulfilling life and that's the most important thing

On the downside you see far fewer younger people, which means you die quicker.
Studies have shown that interaction with young people has a significant beneficial effect on the health of older people. Many care homes were forging links with local primary schools and nurseries to improve their residents' health, until the lockdown movement kiboshed that.
Does living in a flat mean you see fewer younger people? My 93-year-old relative has gone for a short around his local area, but interaction with young people is not related to where he lives.
I will be 70+ when I move into a flat, with them being located near the town center, they allow you to get out and mingle, if you are that way inclined.
