What I meant to say was I can connect it to the router and it works I then unplug it from the router and take it upstairs and it works for a while the I get the no connection message
Unplug as in an ethernet cable is linking the laptop to the router ?
Could it be the router cant get a signal.
Do you have a phone you can try and connect to the wifi upstairs to see if thats the issue ?

If you want our help you need to answer the questions being asked. I'll ask my questions again:-
What do you mean by. "I have not yet made my laptop wireless and neither is my wifes." ?
Are the TP Link adapters wireless and ethernet or just ethernet?
What is the make and model No of both of your laptops?

Who knows, the OP is not being very forthcoming, despite being asked a number of times.
