What I meant to say was I can connect it to the router and it works I then unplug it from the router and take it upstairs and it works for a while the I get the no connection message
  • What is the text of the 'no connectoin message' ?
Is it your WiFi connection dropping or it it your Internet connection not working?
A dream is not reality, but who's to say which is which?

What happens if you connect to the internet then unplug from the router and continue browsing whilst the laptop is in close proximity to the router?
  • ...and what is the signsl strength (often shown as a number of bars on the wifi symbol or after you click on it) both next to the router and upstairs? That and interference such as from other wifi in the vicinity has a significant affect on connectivity.

There are sooooo many aspects which could be causing this. You need to diagnose in a structured manner.
    1. Check wifi SSID - DONE
    2. Configure WiFi stack on Laptop - DONE (you must have to be able to connect)
    3. Connect to Router - DONE
    4. Signal check (RSSI/dB values) - NOT DONE, see below
    5. Check WiFi band use conflicts with other devices/neighbour signals.
    6. Turn off any power save modes that might be on in the WiFi stack - NOT DONE
    7. Install latest driver for the WiFi chip FROM THE OEM and not from some dangerous "driver site" - NOT DONE
    8. View service and system logs (are you using iOS or Windows laptop?) - NOT DONE
    9.  proceed depending on log records - which we do not know because we have not got this far.

Download "Any Router" app for your phone.

    For Android, Goto https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mobiledirection.easyanyrouteradmin192&hl=en&gl=US
iOS will have something similar but I do not use crappy iPhones so...!

Once installed connect to your WiFi and move to the location where your lappy is dropping out its connection. Have a look on the wifi page of the app you installed. Is it showing connection signal and speed? It should be?

Some more information about this I have three TP Link adapters one is connected to my wifes laptop one to mine and one to the router.I have not yet made my laptop wireless and neither is my wifes. My wifes adapter shows three lights as does the one connected to the router but I can never have constant three lights on mine.I have swapped all three adapters around but it makes no difference. This morning I tried to use my laptop without the ethernet cable being plugged in and it worked fine strange as have not made my laptop wireless yet. There are no lights lit on the adapter whilst typing this I expect that is because I am not using the ethernet cable. Will plug the cable in when I finish this reply.Sorry it is so long.
  • What do you mean by. "I have not yet made my laptop wireless and neither is my wifes." ?
Are the TP Link adapters wireless and ethernet or just ethernet?
What is the make and model No of both of your laptops?

I think we're going to need to see some pics of your setup as it's coming across as very confusing at the moment.

You're still not explaining to us what these adapters are? Do you mean Powerline adapters?

A link to what you have would be helpful.
