    I'm due to switch to GNE on 2nd Feb should I contact British Gas who I'm switching from and get them to cancel it?

    You're too far gone now unfortunately.
    Let it complete and then it'll transfer to SOLR, whoever that may be.  You can switch again after that.
     My cooling off period finishes tomorrow (28th). Surely I should be able to cancel by speaking to my existing supplier? It seems unfair that I can't contact GNE to pull out.
    If you are still in your cooling off period, then you can cancel the switch if you can contact GNE.

    YOu could also contact BG and see if they willl object to the switch for you.  If they will, this will also cencel the switch.

    GNE as an entity has stopped trading so it is unlikely that anybody is being paid to answer the phones. Most transfers take place within 17 days from application. The ‘cooling off’ period applies but if exercised late in the day it might require the gaining supplier to transfer back the supply that it had taken over.
  • The way things are going we will be left with the big six.

    The big 6 haven't existed since npower were taken over by e.on in 2019. Their remaining customer will have all been migrated over to e.on (well e.on next) in the next couple of minutes. Octopus and Shell both have fairly large customer bases now so maybe it should be changed to the big 7.
  • I am with Green Network Energy. I have been accepted for the Warm Home Discount, but It hasn't been credited to my account yet. I'd like to know if the new appointed supplier will honour the Warm Home Discount payment?

    I swear I'm the kiss of death on these smaller suppliers. Went to economy energy in 2017, they went bust so got automatically moved to ovo, then at some point switched to our power and they went bust too! 
    Let me know where you are going next and I can steer clear of them! :D :P

    I am with GNE and just started a switch to London power yesterday. Should I cancel or let it go through?

    I'd wait three or four days and see who you are going to get as SoLR. 'Just started' when? You have a full 14 days cooling offf period.
    No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

    At 2am I've received the email saying my cooling off period has ended. Very annoying. Looks like I'll have to let the switch go through and do another as soon as I can. My biggest fear is what intermediate tariff I'm forced on to while gas consumption is higher while the schools are closed and I'm WFH.

    I wonder if I should switch now and cancel my DD to the GNE. That way I don't have a credit balance to protect? The SOLR will need to chase me for energy used during the intermediate period. Or does this overly complicate things?

    With the YE to SP SOLR process it took 3 days before Ofgem notified us who was their appointed SOLR.
    That doesn't sound too bad.  Does that mean in that situation people could then sign up to a new provider at that point ?
    The Ofgem advice is not to switch until the SoLR has taken over your supply.

    In the Yorkshire Energy thread some people started a switch immediately, before Scottish Power had been announced as SoLR.  Those switches seemed to go through OK initially, however some found that SP later tried to gain their supplies.  So you can end up with a double switch problem that can be a hassle to resolve.

    Most on the YE thread seemed to wait until Scottish Power had taken the supply, and the national Electricity and Gas databases listed SP as our supplier.  This took around 3-4 weeks.  Once the SoLR is listed as your supplier on those databases, you can start a new switch and shouldn't get a double switch problem.  Just to note, at this point SP hadn't set up online accounts yet, and for many still haven't done this properly, but it doesn't stop a switch away - the databases are the thing to watch.

    Obviously it depends on who the SoLR is, the timetable could be somewhat different.  GNE have 360,000 customers according to Ofgem, which is significantly more than YE's 74,000.  SoLR switches do not seem to be as fast or as smooth as a "regular" switch.
    I am one of those who started a switch immediately, before Scottish Power had been announced as SoLR for Yorkshire's customers (completing 25th Dec) and found that SP later tried to gain my supply.  On THREE occasions so far Scottish Power has tried to  "capture" me back, so you could say I have had a QUADRUPLE switch problem.

  • What a f*****g mess! First I have an account with YE, then SP and for the past week GNE. In addition I have an ongoing dispute on opening/closing meter reads from October when transferring from GNE to YE
    And there's no high risers to jump from nearby!!!
