Otherwise we're always caught up in argument between those groups for who it's convenient and those concerned about the fraud risks.
Any change in limit is likely to be accompanied by an increase in the amount of fraud the banks expect customers to cover or at least an increasing reluctance from banks to cover the first X pounds. Which could cause serious problems for those hit by a fraud that can't just write off the £50, £100 like those who want ever higher limits, especially as the groups that could be harder hit by a fraud are probably the ones a bank it less sympathetic to so they are less likely to get a full refund.
We also get hung up on the "contactless" bit as this isnt really the driver of anything, its really if there is any form of secondary verification like PIN or fingerprint etc hence in Australia all transactions card details are passed contactlessly but ordinarily anything over AUD100 needs a PIN and also in the UK why Apple Pay and their competitors are all unlimited payment by contactless.
There may also need to be consideration for a minimum value being able to be set because of off line payments like on London transport that is done contactless but not in realtime else you get a contactless card, set it to a £0.01 limit and travel for free forever on transport.0 -

I am off to buy shares in tin foil company as reckon they are a good bet.I for one will welcome a bigger limit as when doing a slightly bigger shop it means I don't have to touch a germ riddled keypad that some has coughed over or used after picking their nose (this is in general terms and not in terms of the current covid pandemic). I am not always the first to embrace new tech and can resist. But I love using contactless its much quicker. If people are too stupid to not know where their cards are at all times then tough. its your job as the card holder to keep the card and pin safe at all times. So the rest of us suffer because a few can't keep hold of a piece of plastic!!!! (please note I am not referring to people with dementia or other such issues)YoursCalley xHope for everything and expect nothing!!!

I once heard a fellow rep try, but in a more friendly fashion, that they need to know where their card is and advise if not sure, rather than waiting a week to look around the house. Suffice to say that it ended in a massive complaint and a rep in tears....

The sources for the claims are the frequent reports on the national and local news and esp. my own frequent personal experiences of all this, including in my local Post Office only yesterday!0 -
Banks will still use their systems to spot unusual patterns of payment behaviour so no doubt, they will be looking closely for cards that all of a sudden, have successive close to £100 payments before the "use pin" kicks in.

I recently had 4 attempts to take money from 1 of my CC's, 1st for £1, 2 @ £90 and one at £89 all on the apple store (I'm on android/have nothing apple). NatWest spotted them and bounced them back then sent me a text. All this happened in a 15 mins time span. It wasn't me so they locked and blocked my card and I had a new one within 24hrs. So fair plays to NatWest.
I have an inkling who had got the info off me, a local corner shop where if the son was working an applepay reader was used which never worked even with card inserted and pin used, so out would come the regular card reader and suddenly C&P would work.
Can't prove any of this but lets just say I don't use that corner shop anymore and have had no issues since.
But yea, £100 limit will be handy, as long as banks can keep their eye on the ball, which I trust them (?) to.I'm writing a book on plagiarism. It wasn't my idea.1
