SCS demand extra payment after nearly 4 months

We order 3 items of furniture from Scs and were asked to make sure that it would fit in our home before the order was submitted to be made. The total price was £1650. We paid a £650 deposit in store and went home to measure up. The furniture we ordered would fit but we had no room around the furniture so changed our order from two, two seat sofas and a 1.5 seat snuggler chair, to a two seat and a four seater sofa. I asked at the time for what the new outstanding balance would be as the policy at Scs is to settle up outstanding balance before they will schedule a delivery date. I was told only outstanding balance would be £258.98 and not the total cost of the order. I then contacted the shop and sales man we dealt with as this seemed lower than we expected. And he also confirmed outstanding balance of £258.98.
So we assumed this was a special sale price. When a delivery date had been confirmed we call payments department to settle the account and paid the £258.98 that was confirmed a 3rd time, the furniture finally arrived after the first team realised it hadn't been loaded on the van, and was delivered later the same day by another team. One foot had been drilled in the wrong place and the material on one of the arms was creased. So arrangements were made for a technician to call and make the problems right. We received an email with a completion of order receipt. And all good apart from the few mistakes along the way. 3.5 to four months down the line I get an email saying I owe a further £650. I called Scs to ask why and how after this time they have decided £650 needs paying. After several calls and promises to get a manager to call on specific days that I never received I get a letter from a debt collection company demanding payment.
What are my rights. And has anyone else had this experience with Scs. Thanks

What does your paperwork for the order say?0

Hi. Sorry to sound blunt, I learned these manners off here. You knew what the furniture cost. PAY UP.0

Could it be your £650 deposit has not been transferred to the amended order?0

I wondered if the cost of the new furniture was £1650 plus the £258 they asked for, but that would leave an outstanding balance of £1000, not £650. It sounds like it's an error in the way they've attributed your deposit, as sheramber suggests.
How much was the overall cost of the revised order and how much have you paid them to date? Have you checked that the £650 you thought you paid was actually taken from your card or account?
Bottom line is, if you owe them, you owe them, and four months' delay doesn't get you out of paying.0 -

To me it reads
1st order £1650, paid £650 leaving £1000
New order paid £650 + £258.95 = 908.98 SCS wants another £650 = £1558.98 which seems about right0 -
Afraid I suspect the money is due - but to be fair to OP (unlike a couple of other threads today) - they queried the amount at the time several times, then when were told they owed more, asked for clarification, didn't receive the promised call-backs, and then the company have gone for the DC button.Peter
Debt free - finally finished paying off £20k + Interest.1
