At wits end with broadband speeds (Sky)

There is no requirement on the employer to pay for the temporarily WFH employee's internet connection in any form, so it is very unlikely that they would fork over £300+ per month for a private circuit (unless the employer is local government, our local one spends money like water then complains it doesn't have any).Rodders53 said:A leased line or fibre connection would be possible, but very expensive (for the firm you work for assuming they will pay)? But not a quick installation either.
Also bear in mind plenty of small companies do not have an "IT department" at all - the one I work for is an example - so asking them might be futile, and again they are under no obligation to help someone sort out their domestic broadband even when it's being used for work purposes.
One possibility to get additional speed is to use an ISP that allows bonding of ADSL / VDSL lines and get a second phone line put in then bond the two lines. That would provide double the throughput (less a little for overhead). None of teh "big name" ISPs that MSE "blags" deals from allow this. Also, some ISPs are better than others when it comes to moving packets due to their investment and spending on backhaul and peering, so the headline "speed" is not the only thing to consider. When I was on 3Mbps ADSL, my parents would say "your internet is really fast". They also had ADSL, but at 16Mbps. The difference is they use Talk Talk because it's cheap, and I don't.Proud member of the wokerati, though I don't eat tofu.Home is where my books are.Solar PV 5.2kWp system, SE facing, >1% shading, installed March 2019.Mortgage free July 20231
